2012 Alabama Crimson Tide Football Preview

We predict Alabama wins the SEC West (again) in 2013, but will lose in the SEC Championship Game. Here's our 2013 Alabama Crimson Tide Football Preview.

Congrats to the Alabama Crimson Tide on another BCS Championship. That's 7 Straight for the SEC!!

2011 SEC Record: 7-1 (2nd SEC West) – Overall 12-1

Returning starters: 6 offense, 4 defense, 3 special teams

The Good: All great teams are strong on the line, and this year’s Alabama offensive line could be one of the best in the country. Four of five players from the National Championship team are back, including Outland trophy winner Barrett Jones.

The Bad: It looked like a team picture of the Tide defensive squad at the NFL Draft, and although that’s good for publicity, it leaves lot of questions of what remains on the field, especially at Linebacker. Throw in the fact we don’t know who will A.J. McCarren throw the ball to and that might spell trouble as the season plays out.

The Ugly: The great thing about winning a National Championship is your school spends eight months gloating obnoxiously about how great they are. The bad news is when September comes and the games kick off to start a new season, the charmed life is over and the ball will probably not bounce your way like it did last year.

The Schedule: With the exception of the opener at Jerry’s Palace in Arlington against Michigan, and with Arkansas being in the middle of a new coaching situation, the September and October games have me wondering, “What’s this, amateur hour?”

Bama should be undefeated going into their battle with LSU in Baton Rouge on November 3rd. They have lost four of the last six games to the Tigers in Baton Rouge, so they are due to pull one out in Death Valley. If they do, they should run the table.

What will happen: With a tremendous offensive line blocking for A.J. McCarron, as well as running backs Eddie Lacy and T.J. Yeldon, who you will hear a lot about this fall, these guys will be scary.

However, defense wins championships, and with new players on the defensive side of the ball, the Tide might be a year away from going back to the championship game. But don’t worry too much, T-Town, this is going to be a very good football team. Nick Saban will make sure of that.

Bowl Game: In what will be a sweet season, Tide fans will be heading to New Orleans with their Cheerios to raid the Sugar Bowl.

2012 Prediction: 2nd in the SEC West.
