Auburn - Alabama Heisman Trophy Winners

Auburn and Alabama are two powerhouses in college football. Both schools won National Championship games the last two seasons. Alabama got their first Heisman winner in Mark Ingram in 2009. It is amazing that Alabama for all these years of winning that they finally have a Heisman winner. Cam Newton at Auburn won the Heisman this past season. It is Auburn's third Heisman winner, second in quarterback. The first Heisman winner at Auburn was Pat Sullivan back in 1971. He was Auburn's quarterback from 1969-1971. He played for the Atlanta Falcons from 1972-1975, and then played for Washington Redskins. He was with Washington from 1976-1977, and then retired.

Bo Jackson was Auburn's second Heisman winner in 1985. He played at Auburn from 1982-1985. Bo Jackson played baseball for Auburn, and got drafted by the Kansas City Royals. Bo Jackson played for the LA Raiders, he got injured in 1990 playoffs and had to retire. Bo Jackson originally got drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but later got drafted again, this time LA Raiders. He played for Kansas City Royals from 1986-1990. When Bo Jackson got injured, he missed most 1991 baseball season. He got signed by Chicago White Sox during the season after the Royals released him. He finished his baseball career with the California Angels.

When Alabama got their first Heisman winner in 2009, they went on to win the National Championship against Texas. Mark Ingram did not disappoint. Mark ran for 116 yards, with 2 TDs on 22 carries. He was Offensive MVP for the game. Mark Ingram Jr, is the son of Mark Ingram Sr. who also played football. Mark Ingram won his Heisman as a sophomore and also broke single season rushing record with 1,542 yards. Alabama, who won 13 National Championships, only produced 1 Heisman! Last Alabama player that came close was Shaun Alexander in 1999.

Cam Newton will be in the NFL draft this April, he led Auburn to a perfect 14-0 season. Cam Newton who beat the odds of playing for Auburn will now quarterback for a NFL team. With his ability to run and his cannon arm, he should have no problem finding a suitor to fit him. Cam Newton originally played for the Florida Gators from 2007-2009, but Tim Tebow was the starting quarterback. In 2009, Cam went to a small community college, Blinn and led them to NJCAA championship game. Then he got signed by Auburn in 2010. These two schools have a rich history of winning, but they both combined with ONLY 4 Heisman winners. That's something I couldn't believe myself.

Alabama and Auburn had the two best coaches of all time. Bear Bryant and Shug Jordan, they were both exceptionally good at their game plans and recruiting.
