Patriots Belichick Spygate News

Looking for current Patriots Belichick Spygate News? If so, look no further, we have the latest stories here.

This story is like peeling back the layers of an onion. It's impossible to get to the bottom of it as it's just one layer after another, each making you tear up a bit more.

The very latest (as of June 6, 2008) is that (after talking to Matt Walsh) the NFL (Goodell) has essentially declared Spygate to be over.

However, Senator Specter has again called for the NFL to conduct a real investigation. Specter says:

My strong preference is for the NFL to activate a Mitchell-type investigation.... If the NFL continues to leave a vacuum, Congress may be tempted to fill it.... The commissioner's investigation has been fatally flawed. The lack of candor, the piece-meal disclosures, the changes in position on material matters, the failure to be proactive in seeking out other key witnesses, and responding only when unavoidable evidence is thrust upon the NFL leads to the judgment that an impartial investigation is mandatory.

Prior Discussion:

The latest is that apparently, after all, Matt Walsh did not have any tape of the Ram's Super Bowl pre-game walkthrough. See the Boston Herald's Apology on this issue.

But, Belichick is far from off the hook as you'll see if you read Matt Walsh's Story or Senator Arlen Specter's Take.

The Boston Herald's Tony Massarotti has a nice summary of what we know of the whole sordid affair (thus far) at Nobody Wins This One.

Notice all the articles we've linked to are from The Boston Herald so, hopefully, Pat's fans will realize we really are trying to be unbiased and simply seeking the truth. By the way, "thanks" to the Pat's fan who sent me the link to the "Apology" story linked to above.

The bottom line on Spygate is that it is becoming increasingly clear that "stealing" other team's signals was a major Patriot's effort before Belichick was busted for it last year. It also seems likely that it contributed to their success.

On the other hand, the Pat's were generally successful in skirting the ineffective NFL rules on the issue. And, yes, other teams did similar things as well.

So, where do we go from here? Do we simply legalize stealing signals? That's one option of course. And, if so, then the ability of teams to use technology to steal and prevent stealing of signals will become a bigger and bigger part of the game. The outcome of games will be decided more by computer geeks than football players. That's one path.

Or, the NFL can seriously crack down on this.

Interesting story about a Brit who sold all his earthly possessions to head out on a pilgrimage of sorts to see a game in every NFL stadium this season. You can read about it at Adam's Football Trip. By the way Pat's fans, Adam will be at Gillette Stadium on October 20th to see the Patriot's take on the Broncos. Wonder what he'll think of Spygate???
