Which is the best college football fan conference? Well, probably it's the top college football fan attendance conference. If you are reading this, I suspect you probably already know the answer to that question.

It's the same conference that has led in football fan attendance for the past thirteen straight years.

Of course, the conference I'm talking about is the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Given SEC Football's outstanding tradition and history, you would expect that it would naturally be the top college football fan attendance conference.

After all, a conference cannot sustain greatness on the gridiron without the support, passion, and, yes – money that the fans bring.

It's the old chicken vs. the egg argument –

Which came first? SEC football greatness on the field or SEC football greatness in the stands (i.e. SEC football fans)?

As you would expect, the SEC leads with 6 of the top 10 individual college football school rankings.

It's interesting to note the SEC showed the biggest increase in football fan attendance of the conferences in 2006; the Big Ten showed the biggest decrease. In fact the SEC set a new all-time record for football fan attendance in 2006 -- only to break its own record in subsequent years.

No doubt some of you are saying -- "well, 2007 is old news." Never fear. The SEC has continued to lead the way each year since then. In fact, in 2008 the SEC set an all-time average conference attendance record with 76,844 fans present per game. Last year (2010) the SEC was still tops, averaging 76,719 (see above).
