Orlando - Capital One Bowl Trip Tips

This year it's Alabama vs Michigan State in the 2011 Capital One - Citrus Bowl on New Years Day. Here's our Alabama vs Michigan State 2011 Capital One Bowl Preview.

Orlando, Florida is known as the theme park capital of the world, and for good reason. The ratio of amusement and/or attraction per individual is higher here than anywhere else imaginable. For that reason, it has become known as a town that is most geared towards families with kids, and as such, most of the most popular destinations there are also geared in that direction. However, the town is more than just Disney World, and there is plenty to do there for the football fan before the ball kicks off at the Capital One Bowl.

Clearly, one must begin with the theme parks when looking at Orlando, and when talking about the theme parks, one must begin with the Walt Disney World family of parks, including the original Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios (formerly Disney-MGM Studios), and Disney's Animal Kingdom. Now, keep in mind, none of these parks are cheap...and it tends to be beneficial to buy tickets for multiple days at a time to truly get your money's worth. Also, because the Disney family of parks caters so heavily to travelers, as opposed to locals (who you may expect at a "Six Flags" regional theme park, for example), the crowds are not appreciably smaller on weekdays. That said, they are slightly smaller. http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/

Now, if you are looking for something more for the guys, you may want to take a drive over to Motors, Wheels, & More at Old Town. Old Town is a car lover's dream, and has a number of car shows weekly, offering guests the opportunity to check out hundreds of classic and sports cars. If slower speed activities are more your style, the Hawk's Landing Golf Club located at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort is home to one of the finest 18-hole championship golf course in Central Florida. http://www.old-town.com/

If you get thirsty, you may want to head over to JB's Sports Bar & Restaurant, which is considered by many to be Orlando's #1 sports bar. JB's features nearly every sports package you can imagine, from the NFL Sunday Ticket, to NBA Full Court, to NASCAR, and with dozens of HDTVs scattered throughout the facility, you are never far from the action. The menu is fairly typical sports bar fare, but is prepared with just a little something extra. The burgers are just a little juicier. The fries a little crispier. And, the beer. Let's not forget their ample beer selection, a little colder. www.jbssportsrestaurant.com

If you still haven't had your fill of sports, then why not take in an Orlando Magic game? The Magic play at Amway Arena in downtown Orlando, and are one of the best teams in the NBA's Eastern Conference. While attendance is usually very good, there are usually tickets available on gameday. Tickets can be purchased through the Arena's website.
