The Independence Bowl is no longer affiliated with the SEC having been replaced by the Gator Bowl. Nevertheless, some of you may still be interested in traveling to Shreveport for the 2010 Independence Bowl. This year it will be Georgia Tech vs Air Force on December 27. You can read our preview of that game and many other college bowl games at 2010 - 2011 College Football Bowl Predictions.

While spending time in the city of Shreveport, LA for the Independence Bowl, you may find that you want to engage in a non-football related activity or two while you are in town. Well, in Shreveport, you are in luck, as this is a city jam packed with fun and exciting things to do for the entire family, and many of which are actually quite affordable.

Most people agree that the first stop for any tourist to the Shreveport area should be the R.W. Norton art gallery. The Norton art gallery is widely renowned as one of the finest galleries in the Southeastern U.S., and features over 400 years of works from some of the finest artists from the United States as well as from a number of European Nations. Two of the most highly profiled artists within the collection are Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell. http://www.rwnaf.org.

If you are looking for something a little more fast-paced, there are a number of Casinos in the Shreveport area that are worth visiting, for those who fancy a game of chance. One of the most popular casinos in the Shreveport area is Sam's Town. Sam's Town Shreveport is widely known for its extensive array of gaming options, its first class hotel (many of its rooms are outfitted with Jacuzzis and other top-flight amenities, and its excellent and eminently affordable buffet offerings. http://www.samstownshreveport.com.

While a Casino may be a blast for the adults, you may find that you need to look toward more family oriented offerings. If this is the case, head over to Sci-Port, the Louisiana Science center. This 92,000 square foot facility boasts a wide range of fun and family oriented activities ranging from science, math, and space exhibits, to their spectacular IMAX Dome theater, to their interactive laser Space Dome planetarium. The science center also features the typical museum fare, a gift shop, café, etc. http://www.sciport.org.

If you have a horticulturist itch that needs scratching, Shreveport has you covered there as well. The Gardens of the American Rose Society in Shreveport features a breathtaking plethora of beautiful floral displays. The park, America's largest park dedicated strictly to Roses, features an estimated 20,000+ roses in bloom at any given time, and features Roses of all colors, shapes and sizes, ranging from the traditional reds, whites, and pinks that we all know and love, to a wide range of hybrids as well as mini-roses.

Whatever you choose to do, and however you choose to spend your time, Shreveport is more than just a great football town. It is a town rich and ripe in culinary and cultural tradition, and also a city that has an eye cast firmly on the road ahead…not caught in the past, yet certainly well adorned by it at the same time.
