University of Mississippi Oxford Trip

Learn more about Ole Miss Rebel Football Travel Guide; Ole Miss Rebel Baseball Travel Guide; Ole Miss Rebel Basketball Travel Guide and Ole Miss Rebel Tickets.

The first time I visited Oxford, Mississippi was a few years ago and I traveled there for a wedding. I was instantly in love with the town. There's a warm charm found there. People are friendly and once you rub shoulders with the locals, you'll quickly discover that many who live there moved to Oxford as a college student. They stay because they simply love it.

Oxford, Mississippi is home to the Ole Miss Rebels. Home to those who love football and home to those Mississippi fans who never lose sight of a winning season even when the schedule shows results that aren't quite pleasing to the Rebel eye. Why? It's loyalty and it runs deep in Old Miss fans.

One of my favorite things to do when I'm in Mississippi now is to take the traditional "Walk through the Grove." For two hours before game time, you'll find the grove is a place to talk football with other Ole Miss Rebel fans.

The University of Mississippi is a school built on long-held traditions. Hugh Hefner tagged Ole Miss women as some of the finest in the world. Of course this only adds to the attraction for many bachelors!

Gamblers love the location of the campus because Oxford is only about an hour and half away from the Tunica, Mississippi casinos. Memphis is seventy miles north and Tupelo is about a fifty minute drive -- so take your pick.

Do you want to stay in Oxford at a quaint bed and breakfast or hit a luxurious hotel in Tunica? Ask yourself if you feel lucky and then make a decision.

With nine casinos nearby, often those traveling to Mississippi to watch the Rebels play will choose to stay in Tunica. Choices vary, but the largest gaming property in the South provides numerous accommodation choices. Mississippi's Grand Casino Tunica is now owned by Harrah's and makes for a perfect getaway if you don't mind following the traffic after the game ends. Yes, as you might have guessed, a lot of fans move toward Tunica after the ballgame!

The Inn at Ole Miss is on University Avenue and isn't quite as fancy as it sounds but is recommended and suggested. If you want to experience the true voice of Oxford, then this is where to find it. So many old football stories are shared by guests who seem to just sit around and talk about the good ole days of the Rebels and those who know them best often choose to stay there.

When visiting Oxford, if you are traveling from Memphis, there are countless places to stop along the way for shopping. The Galleria Mall is absolutely a must for those who love to shop and if you find that Oxford is booked up for the sports event you're attending, call one of the hotels located on Poplar Avenue in Memphis where you'll find convenience as well as a lot of great restaurants.

For the ultimate party experience, don't forget Beale Street in Memphis where you're sure to find a good party after an Ole Miss victory and if you opt to stay downtown, check out The Peabody Hotel where the ducks around there do some very strange and noteworthy things!

Oxford, Mississippi is home to great sports. Football at Ole Miss brings in big crowds so plan ahead. Chances are, unless you made your reservations well in advance, you will need to stay outside of Oxford.

Now you know your options when you're planning a trip to Oxford to see an Ole Miss game!
