This bowl used to be called the Papa John's Bowl. However, it now is called the BBVA Compass Bowl. This year the bowl will be played on January 8, 2011 between the Kentucky Wildcats and the Pitt Panthers. Check out our Kentucky Wildcats vs Pittsburgh Panthers Bowl Preview.

Most of the time that you spend in Birmingham when you travel there for the Papa John's Bowl will probably revolve around football. Whether it be the time you spend at the game, the time you spend getting ready for the game, the time you spend tailgating before the game, or the time you spend recovering FROM the game. However, despite the football frenzy that you will be engulfed in, there still just may be a few moments here and again in which you decide that it's time to take a break from the pigskin, and partake in another activity. And Birmingham has a wide range of activities to choose from.

If the family is along for the trip, why not provide them with something, just a little something, educational at least beyond the inevitable math lessons and displays of sportsmanship found at the game. One of the most esteemed sites in the city of Birmingham is that of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute was created as a means of providing a visual representation of the plight of African-Americans in Birmingham to become full and active members if the community and fully represented in the city government. This struggle is seen by many as a microcosm of the efforts by African-Americans across the nation during the time, and as such, is representative of so much more http://www.bcri.org/index.html.

Hungry? Then there is no place better to satisfy that appetite than Dreamland BBQ. However, if a full day of history and ribs leaves you craving sports yet again, there is one place that you need to check out, the On Tap Sports Caf. On Tap has been voted Birmingham's Best Sports Bar. It has also been voted as the sports bar having the best beer selection, and the best Buffalo wings. Whatever you want to watch, they have. ESPN Game Plan. NFL Sunday Ticket. ESPN Full Court. NHL Center Ice. MLB Extra Innings. Everything. And college football is their most popular event. If you are hungry, their bar menu is a cut above most, providing a wide range of delicious sandwiches, burgers, and appetizers.
