Wow, what a great game the LSU Tigers played at the 2008 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl at the Georgia Dome on New Years Eve. LSU whipped Georgia Tech 38-3 to finish the season with an 8-5 record. Les Miles' Tigers had been disappointing this season, but the impressive bowl win certainly turned things around. LSU is now 4-0 under Miles in bowl games. Get ready for LSU football in 2009!!

LSU Tigers football fans are still celebrating in Baton Rouge after their amazing 2007 College Football National Championship. Even after losing two tough, close SEC games (both in 3 OT's to Kentucky and Arkansas) they still made it to the 2008 BCS National Championship game; beat Ohio State and finished the season as National Champs.
Congrats to LSU Tigers Football -- College Football's 2007 National Champion. You can read more about it at:
I'll never forget the wins against Florida and Alabama in particular. Divine intervention seemed to win those games for the Tigers.
Update: Well, appears LSU has settled it's QB issue and found a fine quarterback in Jarrett Lee. He looked terrific in the second half of the win at Auburn. Still, he is a freshman, so it's hard to imagine that having a freshman QB doesn't cost LSU a game (or two) this year. We'll see what happens in the Florida, Georgia and Alabama games.
Well, the huge loss at Florida (51-21) was demoralizing for the Tigers. But, the Tigers bounced back at South Carolina with a clutch win. Then a tough loss to Georgia in Baton Rouge. Huge game Saturday at home against Alabama!!
Prior Comments: But, it's a new year. And, LSU has a huge hole this year quarterback. Last year's starting QB Matt Flynn graduated and was drafted in the 7th round of the NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers. That didn't look like a problem at the time as LSU had a great backup in Ryan Perrilloux who had filled in for Flynn last year when he was injured. But, Perrilloux has been kicked off the team for disciplinary violations.
So, LSU has a big hole at probably the most important position on the team. Andrew Hatch (transfer from Harvard) and Jarrett Lee (redshirt freshman highly-touted recruit from Texas) will compete for the job - but neither will be as good as either of last year's QB's. And, don't forget tough tailback Jacob Hester who is also gone. How many times did he convert a 3rd or 4th down? And, receiver Early Doucet will be hard to replace as well. Still, LSU is strong at every offensive position (other than QB), so they will be good. Just not great.
On defense, LSU lost defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey who won several national awards in 2007 including the Bronko Nagurski Award, Outland Trophy, Vince Lombardi/Rotary Award. They also lost All-American Craig Steltz and their great defensive coordinator Bo Pelini. And, several other starters from last year's NC team (both Corners and LSU's Safety).
But LSU is LSU and that means they are well-stocked with football talent. Even though LSU ties Arkansas and Vanderbilt for highest number of starters lost (12), plenty of great players will fill the holes. In fact, the defensive line will probably be even better, even without Dorsey. LSU has 6 players named to the 2008 Preseason All-SEC team. They are:
- Herman Johnson (1st Team Offensive Guard)
- Tyson Jackson (1st Team Defensive End)
- Darry Beckwith (1st Team Linebacker)
- Colt David (1st Team Placekicker)
- Richard Dixon (2nd Team Tight End)
- Ciron Black (2d Team Offensive Line)
Still, all-in-all LSU's defense, like the Tigers' offense, will take a small step down from last season.
The other thing is that everyone will be gunning for LSU in 2008. That's goes with the territory when you are College Football's reigning National Champion. LSU plays no one worth mentioning outside of the SEC. Still, their SEC schedule is plenty tough. They play everyone in the SEC West (of course) and also the top 3 teams in the SEC East (Georgia, Florida and South Carolina). The trips to Auburn and Florida look especially tough.
At the end of the day, we predict the 2008 LSU Tigers Football team will lose 3 games in the SEC and end up 3rd in the SEC West (behind Alabama and Auburn). They'll still get a decent bowl bid and win that. Maybe end up the season ranked about 15th.
