SEC Football Week 7 Preview

Game of the Week

#12 Arkansas at #7 Auburn

Auburn Helmets

It has to give the fans in Tuscaloosa the red ass to see their hated rivals over at “That cow college” as Bear Bryant once called it, suddenly pass them up in he pecking order in the SEC.

The Tigers are ranked higher, have a better record, and are tied for first in the SEC West.

Auburn - Arkansas Football Tickets - 10/16/2010 - October 16

Can the Tigers live with prosperity? We all will see on Saturday as they face a team that is desperate to get back into the race in the West as Arkansas comes to town. Auburn is at home and has made the plays when they had to so far this year. On Saturday, they will make one more than the Hogs to stay unbeaten. However, I have to ask, is this the game when the mysterious blue Auburn helmets make their first appearance?

Auburn 24 – Arkansas 21

Vanderbilt at Georgia

Commodores

Round two of the Tennessee two-step finds the Commodores heading to Athens to take on the Dawgs. Georgia finally played expectations in their rout of Tennessee last week, and this time they face a Vanderbilt team that is a shade better than their neighbors to the east. It won’t matter since Georgia makes it a sweep of the Volunteer state. In fact, the band The Commodores would probably fare better…

Georgia 42 – Vanderbilt 7

#10 South Carolina at Kentucky

Speaking of prosperity, can there be another team, a school and a state that feels like they have finally made the big time than South Carolina? After upsetting Alabama, and coupled with Florida’s loss, they control their own destiny to winning their first ever SEC East championship. If this game had been played a few weeks earlier, I would say take the Cats in an upset. But seeing what has transpired, USC looks like the real deal, and Spurrier has the experience to not let them get too comfy being the beast of the East.

South Carolina 31 – Kentucky 17

Mississippi State at #22 Florida

Dan Mullen brings his surprising Bulldogs into the Swamp against an angry Gators team that lost late to LSU last week. Mississippi State has improved over the last few games, but beating the Gators is a pretty tall order, especially after last week’s game. Florida wins this one, but the Dogs make it close.

Florida 24 – Mississippi State 14

McNeese State at #9 LSU

Since this game will be over before the first roar from Mike the Tiger, instead of a prediction, I got to wondering what the LSU Tigers Booster Club meeting would look like if Les Miles were the featured speaker.

Blues Brothers 1 Blues Brothers 2

Commodores

Picture the scene in the Blues Brothers when they play at Bob’s Country Bunker. Instead of Jake and Elwood, Miles would take the stage to a flurry of beer bottles raining down on him. I sure hope someone brings a chicken wire fence.

When I told “Bonecrusher” Busch about this, he told me without hesitation, “I’ll make sure nobody brings the fence…”

The Tigers will win, and get ready for a HUGE showdown with Auburn next week.

LSU 35 – McNeese State 7

Ole Miss at Alabama

Ole Miss at #8 Alabama

If I were Ole Miss, I would take Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks off my Christmas card list. Can you imagine what practice is going to be like in Tuscaloosa this week? I have a feeling the best team in the SEC is going to be focused and as mad enough to make a preacher cuss. Bama gets back on the road to the SEC Championship game with a pounding of Ole Miss.

Alabama 44 – Ole Miss 21

Tennessee – Off Week

The Vols will struggle and if Off Week can put up at least 15 points, they will win.

Off Week 15 – Tennessee 14

SEC quote of the week

If my mother put on a helmet and shoulder pads and a uniform that wasn't the same as the one I was wearing, I'd run over her if she was in my way. And I love my mother.
-- Bo Jackson
