2008 OLE MISS REBELS FOOTBALL

If you are looking for our Current Ole Miss Rebels Football page, check out 2010 Ole Miss Rebels Football.

Wow, what a great, and surprising, year for Ole Miss football!! The Rebels capped it off with an impressive 47-34 win over the former #1 ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Cotton Bowl. Ole Miss just seemed to want it more and consistently harrassed #2 Heisman vote-getter, Graham Harrell.

It does seem like Houston Nutt stepped into a great sitution at Ole Miss and obviously Ed Orgeron was building something special before being fired last year. Still, Nutt has done a great job. It was great to see those Ole Miss flags flying again.

Ole Miss football tickets will be HOT next year. So, get your 2009 Ole Miss football tickets now.

Congrats to Ole Miss Rebels Football!! The Rebs' huge win at LSU (31-13) gives them second place in the SEC West! So far, the Univ. of Miss. is perhaps the surprise (good surprise) of the year in the SEC. They need to take care of business against cross-state rival Miss. State in the Egg Bowl on Friday (day after Thanksgiving)!

2008 Ole Miss Rebels football has been surprisingly good. Mississippi football is rich in southern football history and tradition. But, lately (at least prior to this season), the football gods have not shined on Oxford. For instance, Ole Miss finished the 2007 season with a 3-9 record (0-8 in the SEC) and lost to cross-state rival Miss. State and ended up dead last in the SEC.

But, a new coach is in town and Old Miss football is back. THey beat Florida at the Swamp! Wow, didn't see that one coming. Houston Nutt won a lot of fans in Mississippi with that win. But, that was followed by a loss to South Carolina; win at Arkansas; win against Auburn! Saturday's 59-0 shellacking of Louisiana-Monroe (yes the team that beat Bama last year) qualifies the Rebs for a bowl game!! All in Houston's first season! Wow!!

Many Rebel boosters were surprised by the firing of head coach Ed Orgeron after last season. Many thought Orgeron was on the right track and had brought in some good, young talent (including Texas transfer QB Jevan Snead who sat out last season). Indeed, Ole Miss has more returning starters this year than anyone in the SEC (19; 10 on defense). But, they lost their QB (Seth Adams) and leading rusher (Bruce Hall) from '07. Both graduated as seniors.

At any rate, the University of Mississippi wooed Houston Nutt away from Arkansas and he now leads the Rebels. And, that's what makes 2008 interesting. Nutt, knows the SEC well. He knows how to motivate players. If the talent is there, Nutt could lead the Rebels to some surprise wins. Two key players in 2008 for Ole Miss will be Left Tackle Michael Oher and Defensive Lineman Greg Hardy - both 2008 All-SEC Pre-Season First Team Members.

But, at the end of the day, as we so often say: "The SEC is just so tough." We think Ole Miss will battle it out with Arkansas for last place in the SEC West. The October 25 game at Arkansas will be huge. It is homecoming for Arkansas and look for Houston Nutt to have his Rebs fired up for his own "homecoming." Of course, the Egg Bowl against Miss. State in the last regular season game of the year will be huge too. This year it will be in Oxford.

If we've gotta make a prediction, we think Ole Miss will win one or two SEC games this year and finish in 5th place in the West (ahead of Arkansas).
