By Kentucky Wildcats Basketball standards, 2006 - 2007 was another down year. As a result, Tubby Smith has packed his bags for Minnesota. The Cat's finished in 4th place in the SEC East with a 9-7 conference record. They were 22-12 overall. They made the NCAA tournament as an 8 seed, beat Villanova in the first round, but lost to #1 seed Kansas in the second round. Rumors initally flew that Florida's Billy Donovan might return to Kentucky where he was an assistant coach with Rick Pitino over a decade ago. But, Donovan decided to stay at Florida. So, it will be interesting to see who takes the Kentucky job. Kentucky is a tough coaching job because of the high expectations. On the other hand, there is great potential there to turn the program back into a national powerhouse. The Lady Wildcats ended up 7th in the SEC with a 7-9 conference record. They were 20-14 overall. They did not make the NCAA tournament. The rest of this page has not been updated yet. It is interesting to see our predictions when the season began.

Kentucky Wildcats Basketball has historically been the best in the SEC. Actually, not just the SEC. By virtually every objective measure, Kentucky has the best basketball history of any college in the country. The Wildcats have been playing round ball for 104 seasons. Of course everyone has heard of Adolph Rupp. They named an arena after him at Kentucky.
Kentucky Wildcats basketball is #1 in total all-time wins (1876); #1 in winning percentage (.765); #1 in NCAA Tournament bids (48); and, maybe most importantly, #1 in fan attendance -- averaging 22,763 fans in 2006. [Win stats valid through 2004 season; provided by www.ncaasports.com.] Even when the SEC had a bad basketball reputation, it always had Kentucky to brag about. But recently times have changed. The SEC has gotten stronger, Kentucky has gotten weaker. The Wildcats are now a middle-of-the pack SEC team. Last year they had a 9-7 league record and came in behind Tennessee and Florida in the SEC East.
This year, Kentucky Wildcats Basketball looks to rebound a bit. They come into the season ranked 22d and Danny Sheridan gives them 25:1 odds of winning the national championship. They'll move ahead of Tennessee and finish 2d in the SEC East (behind the Florida Gators). Randolph Morris is back after sitting out half the season last year for eligibility reasons. Joe Crawford can get hot from the outside. Combine these players with a strong recruiting class and the Kentucky Wildcats basketball tradition and you have an interesting team to watch with good potential.

The Lady Wildcats have all 5 starters returning from last years team. That should help, but it will be an uphill battle competing in the tough SEC East. I pick them 4th in the East.
