2011 - 2012 Vanderbilt Commodores Basketball Preview

The Vanderbilt Commodores are definitely looking to improve on a devastating end to their season last year when they entered the NCAA Tournament with a number 4 seed only to become one of the stories of the first round when they were upset by 13th seeded Murray State. Vanderbilt's fans could not believe how their team played in that game, and are looking for the team to play for some redemption come later this fall.

The Commodores are going to get plenty of help from the allegations that are currently gutting Tennessee's basketball program. I believe that, because of all the distractions in Knoxville, the players will not be able to play up to their talent level. This opens the door for Vanderbilt to step in and become the team that everyone is afraid to play. I believe that they will defeat one of the two top teams, Florida and Kentucky, and claim a great win that will eventually get them into another NCAA Tournament.

The main problem the Vanderbilt needs to be concerned with is that they lost their star player, A.J. Ogilvy. This is a huge blow, but I believe they have enough young talent that they can turn to that they will finish in the top part of the SEC East. Their main competition for the number 3 spot in the East is likely to be either Tennessee or Georgia.

Kevin Stallings has been fantastic for the Commodores, and he has them in contention every year, which is another reason I have them so high. If he can rally the troops as I expect him to, then Vanderbilt can and will be a force to be reckoned with.
