April 07 Update -- Wow, I could hardly have been more wrong about Vanderbilt Commodores Basketball this year. What a great surprise they turned out to be. Coach Stallings should be coach of the year in the SEC. The men's team ended up in 2d place in the SEC East with a 10-6 conference record and 22-12 overall. They finished the regular season ranked 26th nationally. The Commodores won 2 games in the NCAA tournament and nearly a 3rd against Georgetown. In fact that game was lost after a very controversial no call on a Georgetown travel.
We actually were almost dead on with our predictions about the Vandy women (see below). They had a very solid year. They finished the regular season ranked 9th nationally and in 3rd place in the SEC with an 11-4 conference record. They went 28-6 overall and won the SEC tournament. In the NCAA tournament, the Lady Commodores were a bit of a disappointment as a second seed. They won their first game, but lost their second game to 7th seeded Bowling Green.
Below is what we predicted before the season started:
*********************************************
Vanderbilt Commodores Basketball has a long and rich tradition of excellence. The basketball team has long been Vanderbilt's signature athletic team. That is changing. For two reasons. First, Vandy's football team is improving. Second, Vandy's basketball team is moving in the other direction.
Certainly they are not bad. But in the tough SEC, especially the SEC East, Vanderbilt University Commodores Basketball no longer competes for the top of the division.
I predict they come in last in the East. But, ahead of 3 SEC West teams: Auburn and the two Mississippi schools.

VANDERBILT LADY COMMODORES BASKETBALL
The Vanderbilt Lady Commodores are a top-20 team. Dee Davis and Carla Thomas provide a good nucleus to build the team around. They will finish 4th in the SEC, go to the NCAA tournament. Lose in the second or third round. But, this is a good team.
