SEC Football 2010 Week 5 Preview

Week 5 SEC Games

After looking over the schedule in the SEC this week, it is a bit of a let down compared to the thrilling contests we had last week. There are only three game pitting SEC teams against each other (Well if you call Ole Miss and Tennessee SEC teams right now), but the headliner makes up for all the Tom Foolery as Florida goes to Tuscaloosa to play Alabama in what could be an SEC Championship game preview.

Let’s look at what is coming your way this Saturday:

Louisiana Monroe at Auburn

12:00pm ESPNU
After back-to-back weeks of heart stopping action at Jordan-Hare, the Tigers get to catch their breath before heading to Lexington to play Kentucky. No way they can come out flat, can they? I would “Shug” my shoulders if my prediction was wrong on this one. (I crack myself up sometimes)

Auburn 35 – Louisiana-Monroe 7

Vanderbilt at Connecticut

12:00pm ESPN3
Vandy looked good the last two weeks in victories over Ole Miss and Open Date. To be honest, Open Date played them tougher than Ole Miss did. However, UConn is going to resemble Open Date, by “Opening” a can of you know what on the ‘ Doores.

Connecticut 28 – Vanderbilt 10

Kentucky at Ole Miss

12:20pm SEC Network/ESPN3
Can the Cats rebound? Well, we know they can, a well as run the fast break and play a good pressure defense. Can the real Ole Miss stand up? If I were these two, I would spend the day in the Grove eating and drinking and the last man standing gets the win for their school. Aw, what the hell, take the Rebs at home in an upset.

Ole Miss 21 – Kentucky 17

Georgia at Colorado

7pm Fox Sports South
Coach Scooter Georgia has the whole pride of the SEC on their shoulders. They better not blow it or my in box is going to be filled with trash talking Big 12 fans. Or Pac 10 fans. Or Pac-12 fans.

Aw, I don’t know what conference they call home anymore, I just know I don’t want to have to deal with it. Hey all you Hairy Dawgs, please win one for Coach Scooter?

Georgia 17 – Colorado 10

Alcorn State at Mississippi State

12:00pm ESPN3
I won’t waste your time with this one. Bulldogs lookin’ good…

Mississippi State 34 – Alcorn State 0

Tennessee at LSU

3:30pm CBS
Tiger Bait! Tiger Bait! I talked to my Aunt Molly today and in her driest Tennessee accent, she told me, “Coach, this one is going to get uglier than a mud fence.”

Fortunately for the undermanned Vols, the game is at 3:30 instead of a night game, when the Tigers are near invincible. What would be an even more fortunate thing is for the game to be postponed until, let’s say, 2023?

LSU 38 – Tennessee 14

Florida at Alabama

8pm CBS
The headline game in the SEC has the two best teams at this juncture of the season squaring off. Remember how I said Bama would lose a game sometime this year? Well, it won’t happen this week as the home crowd and a tough defense stops Urban Meyer’s boys dead in their tracks.

Alabama 21 – Florida 10

The Gary Danielson Circus is back in town

Here is the best of the worst from the announce booth last week:
"Mitch Mustain to Ben Cleveland steamin in the end zone"
Chris Fowler

Does anyone else out there besides me know what a Cleveland Steamer is? That is sure to bring on some tee-hees.

"I see coach Bobby Johnson and Georgia Tech sending the Wolfpack packing."
Picabo Street

Um, Tech's coach is Paul Johnson

"It's not going to be a run play, when it's a pass play."
Chris Spielman

And look who just caught up…

"I asked the trainer, 'Did he tear his ACL?"
Quint Kessenich on Denard Robinson's minor knee injury.

Unless the trainer is Superman using his x-ray eyes, I don’t think you are going to get confirmation on that one.

What do you think?

Carly Simon performed a great song by this title many moons ago. And what is about to transpire on an SEC gridiron reminded me of it. Being the old …
