2008 KENTUCKY WILDCATS FOOTBALL

Looking for Current Kentucky Wildcats football info? Check out 2010 Kentucky Wildcats Football.

Sweet! Great comeback by Kentucky to beat East Carolina 25-19 in the Liberty Bowl. UK's defensive lineman Ventrell Jenkins picked up a fumble and returned it over 50 yards for the winning TD with 3 minutes left in the game. Wow! That's 3 straight bowl wins in the past 3 years for UK. And, another winning season (7-6).

Now's the time to get your 2009 Kentucky Wildcats Football Tickets and UK fan apparel.

The 2008 Kentucky Wildcats football season has been very up and down. It started up and has since gone down.

Reason: One main one - Star quarterback Andre Woodson is gone. He was drafted in the 6th round of the NFL draft by the New York Giants. And, UK could not replace him.

However, the Wildcats pulled out enough wins to qualify for a 3rd straight post-season bowl game. And, they have (had) a good shot to end Tennessee's 23 game win streak against them on November 29th. It will be UT coach Phil Fulmer's last game and the Vols will either be fired up or distracted...or both. Will be an interesting game.

Either way, we're thinking UK might end up in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis on Jan 2. Time will tell.

Update: Kentucky started out like gangbusters in '08, winning their first 4 games. Then, their SEC schedule kicked in and the Wildcats have lost their first two SEC games -- to Alabama and South Carolina. But, both were close games. As was the game against Arkansas. UK game storming back with two 4th quarter TD passes from QB Mike Hartline. That may have saved the Wildcat's season. Then, the win at Mississippi State put the Wildcats in a good position for another bowl bid. UK football has a big opportunity at home against Georgia this Saturday.

Kentucky finished the 2007 football season with an 8-5 record. The Wildcats had 2 amazing games at Commonwealth Stadium. First was a 3 overtime win against then undefeated and top-ranked (and eventual national champion) LSU. But, the second amazing game was a 4 OT loss to the Tennessee Vols (despite Woodson throwing for six touchdown passes and 430 total passing yards). Both of those games were amazing. Earlier in the season, the Cats beat rival Lousiville in a great come-from-behind win. And the season ended with a nice bowl win against Florida State.

Kentucky is lucky that they have (by SEC standards) a relatively weak schedule in 2008. They are fortunate to not have to play either Auburn or LSU. But, they are still left with games against Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, Mississippi State and, of course, they stat the season at cross-state rival Louisville. If UK could manage to pull out one of those 7 games and run the table with the rest (including Arkansas and Vandy), they could make it to a bowl game.

We just don't think it will happen; not with a new, untested sophomore QB - and only two 2008 Preseason All-SEC players (Defensive Lineman Jeremy Jarmon and Offensive Lineman Garry Williams); both 2d teamers. They lost all their great receivers except for Dicky Lyons.

Bottom line prediction: 5-7, 5th in the SEC East.
