2012 Georgia Bulldogs Football Preview

Will the Dawgs repeat as Champs of the SEC East? Here's our 2013 Georgia Bulldogs Football Preview.

2011 SEC Record: 7-1 (1st SEC East) – Overall 10-4

Returning starters: 6 offense, 10 defense, 0 special teams

The Good: With ten starters back on defense, Georgia will provide nightmares for offensive coordinators all around the SEC. Throw in the fact they have one of the best, if not the best, QB in the SEC in Aaron Murray, and you have something to be very happy about if you wear red and black.

The Bad: The offensive line is talented, but inexperienced. Losing TE Orson Charles was a blow, and Isaiah Crowell is gone for good. His poor judgment might cost the Dawgs down the road, but there are some talented freshmen running backs that will get their opportunity to show what they can do. Are they ready for the challenge?

The Ugly: Despite a 7-1 record in the East and a ten win season, UGA benefited from a weak schedule (No Alabama, LSU or Arkansas) and that is why they won the division. When they played a quality opponent, they did not fare as well. Off-season issues with key players will make the first few games on the season a challenge.

The Schedule: Everything comes down to the October 6th battle in Columbia. The winner of that game should take the East. In fact, if the Dawgs win that game, they could run the table because they are better than everyone else on their schedule.

What will happen: With a little luck and the right bounces of the ball at the right time, Georgia could go through the year unbeaten since they have the talent to do the job. At worst, they are overwhelming favorites to win the East, even if they should stumble at South Carolina, since their schedule is more favorable than the Gamecocks. With stars on both sides of the ball, look for UGA to return to Atlanta, and have a great chance at redeeming themselves after last year’s SEC Championship game blowout.

Bowl Game: This could be a Mickey Mouse year in Athens, which is not necessarily a bad thing when hanging out in Orlando. But if they could pull an upset in the SEC Championship…

2012 Prediction: 1st in the SEC East.
