2010 Vanderbilt Commodores Soccer Preview

In 2009, the Vanerbilt Commodores showed a great improvement over their games in 2008. This past season, the Commodores overall record was 11-8-1. Their SEC record was 5-6-0. That's a good deal of improvement over their form SEC record of 3-7-1. In 2009, they finished 4th in the East after making it to the first round of the SEC Tournament, which they lost. They have won 2 SEC championships and have gone to the SEC Tournament 13 times, winning two. While the Commodores did not go to the NCAA postseason in 2009, they have appeared there 7 times before and hold a NCAA record of 4-5-2.

Their most valuable player in 2009 was Molly Kinsella, number 20, who scored 23 points overall. Nicole Lukens followed with 16 points and Megan Forester with 11. Kinsella returns this year as a senior but Forester and Lukens are not returning. The team has 25 members, with a good mixture of new players and experienced ones

Vanderbilt did well against non-SEC opponents, with a record of 6-2-1. They won against a few of their SEC opponents, but lost to a couple of opponents badly, such as the game with Florida where the score was 1-5 Florida. With the good mix of seasoned and new players, Vanderbilt stands to show even more improvement this year and could easily increase their standing in the SEC.
