2010 Ole Miss Rebels Soccer Preview
The Ole Miss Rebels soccer team has greatly improved over their 2008 season. In 2009, the team had a total record of 13-6-2. They took 2nd in the West SEC with a record of 7-2-2 and were in the 2009 SEC Tournament First Round which they ended up losing. They also made it to the 2009 NCAA Tournament post season for their fourth appearance there. They've only won once out of the four.
The team has yet to make it to the SEC Championships, but they have gotten to the SEC Tournament 12 times, although they have never won a tournament. It's a relatively young team, with lots of freshman and sophomores. There is only one senior on the entire team. While this may make them seem inexperienced to many, the obvious improvement the team has been making is proof that they are just getting better.
They did much better against many of the SEC teams in 2009 than was expected, beating Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Alabama while tying with Tennessee and LSU. They have a brand new coach this year in Matthew Mott and he will be proving himself along with the team since he has never been a Division I coach before.
With the spirit and determination this team shows, it is very possible that they could upset some of the bigger SEC players and rewrite what everyone is expecting the season to be. They are not a team to underestimate.
