Auburn Tigers Soccer

Auburn Tigers Soccer is one of the top soccer programs in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Over the past few years, the Lady Tigers have developed a strong national soccer reputation.

Auburn University has won five SEC West Division Titles in the last six years and also won the regular season SEC Soccer Title in 2002. Even with all of this success, the Tigers have still been unable to win the SEC Tournament, although they have been runner-up several times. We predict Auburn will win the SEC West again and battle Florida for the 2007 SEC Soccer Title.

Auburn, as the 2006 SEC West Division Champions, had a strong 11-6-3 record in 2006. Unfortunately, they were knocked out in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Soccer Tournament.

The Tigers had a very young team in 2006 after playing a staggering thirteen freshman compared to only five of their seniors. Senior Ronda Brooks, who was named Defensive MVP for the second year in a row, made some important defensive plays with a total of five points. Caitlin King was another key player who was responsible for some big overtime plays against William & Mary and Kentucky last season.

The successful freshmen of 2006 are now in their second year at Auburn and will likely make even bigger plays this year. Two-time SEC Freshman of the Week, King, who was also voted Rookie of the Year in 2006, will no doubt bring even more skill to the Lady Tigers this year. After leading the team in points as a freshman, the forward will likely be even better than before due to her experience on the field last year.

Sophomore Jenni Prescott, the walk-on known for her determination and heart, is also expected to play big this season after scoring three goals in 2006. Auburn’s starting goalkeeper, Allison Whitworth was named to the 2007 preseason All-SEC team. She replaces Anna Fiser who, last year, was only the third Tiger in history to have 100 saves in one season.

Prediction: Auburn wins the SEC West, gets an NCAA bid and wins one game in the NCAA tournament. Auburn Tigers Soccer will be even stronger in 2008.
