Vanderbilt Commodores soccer had great success in the late 90's appearing in both the NSCAA and NCAA championships. However, the two-time SEC Champion, Vanderbilt Lady Commodores, virtually fell off college soccer's radar early in this decade. But thanks to an appearance at the 2005 NCAA Soccer Championships, the Lady Dores seem to be making a comeback in college soccer.

The Dores had a very good season last year with a 10-5-6 record and an appearance at the NCAA Tournament. Much of their success was due to seniors Tyler Griffin and Monica Buff, who were responsible for the majority of shutouts and saves for the team. Griffin, the most decorated player in school history, was named to the first team All-American and led the team in shutouts, ranking second in the Southeastern Conference. Buff was named to the second-team All-Central Region and the first-team All-SEC last year. Midfielder, Katie Schulz was named to the Pre-Season All-SEC soccer team.

Although Vanderbilt has an astounding fourteen returning players this year, it has been the recruiting class making the serious headlines. The 2007 recruit class ranked first in the Central Region and ninth in the country, the highest the school has ever ranked. The Lady Dores are on their way to building a very powerful soccer team. The new class has five players who are ranked in the top 200 national recruits, with two being ranked in the top fifty.

Vanderbilt Commodores Soccer has been slowly gaining national recognition over the past few years under the direction of head coach Ronnie Coveleskie, who will be starting her seventh season this year. The Dores are putting a lot of faith in incoming freshman Rachel Bachtel, who was ranked in the Top 50 National Recruits last year, to step up as goalkeeper after the loss of All-American Tyler Griffin.

If Vandy's much-hyped recruit class can live up to the expectations, the Dores should have no problem achieving another winning season and will have a good shot at appearing in the NCAA Championship tournaments again in 2008.
