2008 Georgia Bulldogs Soccer

WOW, how bout them Lady Bulldogs!! Impressive showing this season, beating Florida in the 2008 SEC Soccer Championship Tournament and ending up in second place in the Tournament and also in the SEC East in the regular season. Quite a nice surprise!!

Georgia Bulldogs Soccer has a long (for soccer) history dating back to its creation by Central Florida's Bill Barker in 1994. After competing in four straight SEC Tournaments under head coach Sue Montagne-Patberg, the Lady Bulldogs found themselves starting over with new coach, Patrick Baker, in 2004. Under Baker, the Bulldogs were able to bring in a stellar recruiting class and go on to a 12-6-2 record, the second best season turnaround in SEC history.

Georgia Bulldogs Head Soccer Coach, Patrick Baker was named the 2007 SEC Coach of the Year. He is in his fourth season with the Bulldogs. Last season he lead Georgia to a school record 18 wins. The Lady Dogs also were selected for the NCAA Soccer Tournament, winning one game there.

Georgia returns 4 seniors and 8 juniors to the 2008 Lady Bulldogs Soccer team. They will need that experience as they face the toughest schedule in the country.

Georgia soccer plays 7 teams that were ranked in the NSCAA's preseason top 25, including No.1 USC, No.3 North Carolina, No 6 Virginia, No.10 Stanford, and No. 12 Florida. Unfortunately, so far they have lost to all of those teams. However, they did take USC (defending national champs) and Florida into overtime before losing. In any event, the experience of playing this tough early schedule should help Georgia later in the season.

Prior Discussion: In 2006 Georgia Bulldogs Soccer had its second straight winning season under Baker with a 10-9 record. This was the first time the Bulldogs had consecutive winning seasons in six years.

After a painstaking spring training regimen, where they had a 2-3-1 record, the Lady Dogs seem to be starting the 2007 season on a bad foot. But, some of their stronger players, like Kristin Garman and Elizabeth Jackson, have been nursing injuries. So, much will depend on how much those players will play in the 2007 season.

The team does seem to be in better condition than last year though, and head coach Patrick Baker plans on playing many more girls this year instead of focusing on a select few. If they are able to play strong while integrating the newer players, the Lady Bulldogs should have a successful season. If the Dogs harness their talent, they will likely have a winning season and may even see some post-season playtime.

Georgia's new recruiting class is causing pre-season buzz being ranked eighth (by some estimates) in the nation. Seven of the new recruits hail from the state of Georgia. This year is the second consecutive year that Georgia has managed to pull off a top twenty recruiting class. The ladies have been busy this summer with eighteen women competing in club regionals.

Sophomore Forward, Carrie Patterson was picked for the preseason All-SEC team.

Sophomore Lindsey Stein and incoming freshman Rachel Barstow's teams both made it to the semi-finals in the West Region competition. The extra playing time has given the Lady Dogs ample time to practice and hone in their skills, so they should be in top playing condition when the season starts.

Prediction: We think Georgia will be a bit of a positive surprise team in 07. We predict they finish 3rd in a strong SEC East and get an NCAA Championship Soccer Tournament Bid.

We also predict that you'll love these Georgia Bulldogs Baseball Caps, Tickets and Georgia Bulldogs Apparel; Georgia Bulldogs Merchandise; and Georgia Bulldogs Fathead.
