Arkansas Razorbacks Tennis
Arkansas Razorbacks Tennis is a tale of two teams. The men are pretty bad; the women pretty good. To show you what I mean, all the SEC tennis coaches voted in the 2008 pre-season poll, predicting the finish of each team in the SEC. The prediction was (and is) that Arkansas' women's tennis team would end up winning the SEC West and Razorback men would come in dead last. It's also worth noting that at the end of the 2007 season, the men were unranked; the women ranked 58th nationally.
The men's Arkansas Tennis coach is Robert Cox, who has coached the Razorbacks for 20years (23 total coaching years in his career). Darin Phelan is the assistant coach. And, as for key players, the name you hear over and over is Dimitry Lebedev. The Razorbacks are counting on Lebedev to have a great year.
This year the Arkansas Razorback team consists of five freshmen, six sophomores, four juniors, and only one senior. Colin Mascall.
One thing that might favor Arkansas this year is that the SEC Championships are to be held in Fayetteville. So, they'll have the home court advantage.
HISTORY OF THE ARKANSAS RAZORBACK Here's some interesting facts about Arkansas. Did you know that the Arkansas athletic teams have not always been called the Razorbacks? In the early years they were actually called the cardinals.
But, the Arkansas teams soon proved themselves much stronger than cardinals and were renamed as the Razorbacks in 1909. It became official in 1910. Being characterized as a ridge back and wild hog showed an essence of fighting ability, and the student body quickly fell in love with the name.
