2008 Arkansas Razorbacks Soccer

If you are looking for our Current Arkansas Razorbacks Soccer page, check out Arkansas Razorbacks Soccer.

The Arkansas Razorbacks soccer team, led by head coach Gordon Henderson, is one of the oldest soccer programs in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). University of Arkansas Women's Soccer has received many awards in its history. But, the accolades seem to have slowed down in recent years.

The Lady Backs have, improved over the last couple seasons but have still been unable to win a major championship or gain recognition on the national level.

The ARKANSAS Lady Razorbacks Soccer team finished the 2007 season with an overall record 8-11-1.

In just four seasons as the head coach at the University of Arkansas, Gordon Henderson has created a solid foundation for Lady Razorback soccer by bringing in exciting recruiting classes.

Coach Henderson's recruits shined in 2007 as Arkansas was led, statistically, by two freshmen. Kelly O'Connor was the team's leading scorer with 15 points . In goal, Britni Williams set or tied six school freshman records, including tying Arkansas' single-season mark with a 0.91 goals against average.

Sophomore midfielder Kelly O'Connor accumulated 15 points last year, with six goals and three assists to become Arkansas Soccer's leading scorer last year. However, she missed the final eight games of the 2007 season due to injury.

Henderson's first two seasons were spent making the traditions of the Lady Razorback program including a look to the past where he embraced each of Arkansas' former players in the form of alumni boards. With the traditions in place, and his desire to get improve Razorback Soccer, Henderson looks well on the way to his goal.

In fact, the Lady Backs' started the 2008 season with a 7-1 record. However, since beginning conference play, they are 2-2 in the SEC. Not bad.

2007 Notes: After a successful 2006 season with an 11-7-2 record, Arkansas Razorback Soccer is still celebrating. Yet, even with their success, Arkansas was still unable to grab a spot in the SEC or NCAA Soccer Championship tournaments.

The Lady Razorbacks are facing one of their toughest seasons yet, playing five NCAA tournament teams and having a tough second half schedule.

However, it is not all bad news for the Lady Backs. Junior Whitney Allison, known as one of the hardest working players at Arkansas, will likely be a big playmaker this year at forward.

Also, Jackie Booker will continue into her sophomore year as starting goalkeeper. Booker is rumored to be working harder than ever at perfecting her playing skills.

The Lady Backs have been receiving some good recognition for their incoming class, which is ranked twenty-first in the Central Region this year. The Razorbacks will also have the opportunity to have their October 28th game against South Carolina televised, which is most likely a reward for their stellar showing last year.

The Arkansas Razorbacks soccer team will play its first game on August 31st when they play Tulsa at home. Arkansas should win their opener as they have beaten Tulsa consecutively over the past three years.

Although they had great success last season, it seems likely that Arkansas' tough schedule may will prevent a major breakthrough in 2007. Still, Arkansas Soccer has a shot at a winning season.
