University of Florida Head Football Coach
Urban Meyer Biography
Born on July 10, 1964 in Ashtabula, Ohio, Urban Meyer grew up to play as a defensive back, on the University of Cincinnati football team, from 1983-1986. His education includes a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Sports Administration. It is good to see that he has an education to fall back on in case the “coaching gig” doesn’t work out. However, given his career over the past twenty years, that seems unlikely.

University of Florida Gators head football coach Urban Meyer is one of the most celebrated coaches in college football. His winning percentage as a head coach, 83.1%, ranks him seventh nationally among active college coaches. His current six year contract with the University of Florida makes Urban the 3rd highest paid college coach, just behind Alabama's Nick Saban and Notre Dame's Charlie Weiss.
Prior to becoming a the Gator head coach, Meyer was head coach for University of Utah and, before that for Bowling Green State University (2002 - 2004). He was also an assistant coached for Notre Dame, Colorado State University, Illinois State University, and Ohio State University.
Even before Urban Meyer got to Florida, he had already won the

In Meyers’ first two seasons at Florida, the Gators team finished 9-3 and 13-1, respectively. This led them to a 2006 BCS National Championship Victory over Ohio State in a 41-14 final score.
This was the Gators’ first championship since 1996. In addition to his 5-0 record in bowl games (as of 2007), under Meyer, the Gators also have an undefeated record against their three biggest opponents — Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida State—and a 13-0 home record.

However, the Florida Gators are not just great on the football field. The team achieved its best semester grade point average under Urban Meyer in the Spring Semester of 2007. The 2.77 GPA is the highest under Meyer at Florida and it continues a trend of improving grade point averages every semester under since Meyer arrived. This is evidence that Urban Meyer enforces excellence in his players on the field as well as off.
Of course, it is the play on the field that people notice most. And Florida may be the best college football team in America on the field this year. Read more about that at
