2010-2011 GEORGIA BULLDOGS WOMENS BASKETBALL PREVIEW

The Georgia Lady Bulldogs look to be a force in the SEC this season, but they may be overshadowed by two dangerous squads in Tennessee and Kentucky. Any team that overlooks them, however, is going to regret it severely. The Lady Bulldogs have been a hot team the past few seasons, and I expect them to continue their successful play this season.

It all starts with Georgia's head coach Andy Landers, who is one of the most successful coaches of all time. He has been inducted into the Women's College Basketball Hall of Fame and is the winningest college basketball coach in Georgia history. He gets the most out of his players, and is always recruiting new talent. He treats the team like they are a family and it shows in the balanced style that the Lady Bulldogs like to play.

Georgia has all the pieces that it needs to be successful this season. It returns three of its four leading scorers from a season ago, with the only major loss coming in the form of Ashley Houts, the Lady Bulldogs' number 1 scorer from last season. However, the experience that Georgia has should help them overcome the gap that was left in the team with Houts's departure.

Sophomore Jasmine James is the leading scorer returning for the Lady Bulldogs as well as the leader in assists and she looks to be the new leader of this Georgia team. She had a problem with turnovers last year as a freshman, and Landers will look to have that corrected before this season begins.

She has a great supporting cast returning as well, with senior Porsha Phillips and junior Meredith Mitchell both returning as well. These three should be electric in Georgia's offense, which is about as balanced as they come. The Lady Bulldogs can beat teams in a number of different ways, with a number of different people. This will make them extremely tough to defend throughout the season.

Another big loss is that of Georgia's best defensive player from a year ago in Angel Robinson. She led the team with 61 blocks and was a force to be reckoned with inside the paint. The Lady Bulldogs could always count on her for a big play on defense. Mitchell will be relied upon in Robinson's stead to provide a defensive spark.

The Lady Bulldogs are the dark horses of the SEC East, and should make some noise going into the SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament this season. They will be a fun group to keep an eye on as the season unfolds.
