2010-2011 KENTUCKY WILDCATS WOMENS BASKETBALL PREVIEW

The Kentucky Wildcats are the team that I think is the most likely to disrupt Tennessee's rhythm in the SEC this season. They are starting in great position in the polls as well by securing a number 9 ranking in the AP Poll. This, combined with their success all last season, makes me think they might be ready to make a move in the SEC this season.

Last season was record setting for the Lady Wildcats. They recorded 28 wins, which is the most ever recorded by a women's basketball team for Kentucky. They also won 11 SEC games, which is another positive change for a program that has always been consistently in the middle of the pack. Then there was their impressive NCAA Tournament run in which they made it into the Elite Eight before finally falling. All of this experience should really set this Lady Wildcats team up for an extremely successful season.

Kentucky returns four out of their five starters from that amazing tournament run last season, including their leading scorer, All-American Victoria Dunlap. Dunlap averaged over 18 points per game last season and should be a force to be reckoned with as this season moves along.

In light of Dunlap's scoring prowess, many people may forget that Kentucky returns another All-American to their roster. A'dia Mathies returns for just her sophomore year, and looks to be Kentucky's second most dangerous threat by averaging nearly 14 points per game last season.

The Lady Wildcats also have a large freshman class this season, and will look to it to provide some depth for later in the season, as the wear and tear of conference play begind to take its toll. Carly Marrow, a returning senior that usually comes off the bench, will also be relied upon to provide some much needed experience to an otherwise young second string. If Kentucky's young players can come together and produce, I believe that they could improve on the success that they enjoyed last year.
