2010-2011 ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE WOMENS BASKETBALL PREVIEW

The Alabama Crimson Tide is looking to turn things around from the disappointment of last season. With all the talent they have returning, they could make some noise in the weaker SEC West. If they can secure a couple of quality wins, then they should end up squarely in the WNIT.

The main reason why the Crimson Tide has so much hope going into the new season is that they have four returning starters from last year. These returning players will be relied upon to provide leadership and experience to a team that severely lacked both last season. If this team can come together, they certainly have a chance to make some noise in the division.

The Crimson Tide's biggest loss is that of their lead scorer Varisia Raffington. She was the heart of the team and could always be relied on to provide a big score in a tight game. Tierney Jenkins will look to take over for Raffington, and the Crimson Tide as a whole will look to balance out their scoring instead of being one dimensional.

Another problem that plagued the Crimson Tide last season was their defense. They had holes everywhere, and they had no standouts that were able to keep up with the opposing teams' playmakers. With the amount of experience that the starters have now, they should be sounder on the defensive front.

The Crimson Tide has a lot going for them, but they just do not have the playmakers to seriously contend in the SEC. Without winning the SEC Tournament I do not see any way that they would get into the NCAA Tournament this year. They should make some noise in the WNIT, and they should go deep in that tournament.
