Cincinnati vs Vanderbilt Preview

Autozone Liberty Bowl

Vanderbilt is feeling good after escaping the cellar of the SEC and getting into a bowl game. It's not often you get into a bowl game if you're a Vandy fan. The players are playing with a new confidence and the coach has a new contract. This team is ready to roll.

Cincinnati is wanting to start sharpening their claws for next season, as they got a share of the conference title this season, but were dealt with because of a tie break by West Virginia. They are a team on the rise and could be looking at taking out a team from the vaunted SEC as a big target.

Collaros for Cincinnati had a great season throwing the ball with 1854 yards and 14 touchdowns with only 8 interceptions. Rodgers for Vanderbilt was a bit more pedestrian with 1498 yards with 9touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Both of these teams run the ball very well with a one back system. They are not teams that you will see substituting in and out a lot of backs. It's Pead for Cincinnati who had 209 carries with 1110 yards and 11 touchdowns. Stacy for Vanderbilt is more of a speed guy with 183 carries with 1136 yards and 13 touchdowns. Cincinnati has two great receivers with McClung and Thompkins. McClung leads the team 48 catches, 675 yards and 5 touchdowns. Thompkins has 44 receptions for 536 yards and 2 touchdowns. Vanderbilt spreads it out more. Their leader in receptions is Mathews with 37. He also leads in yards with 722. Boyd leads in touchdown receptions though, with 7.

This game will be tight. The thing about a team like Cincinnati and Vanderbilt is that their records and stats don't tell the whole story. Vanderbilt plays in the SEC and plays against next level talent nearly every game and Cincinnati hasn't seen as much of that. I think they will struggle with Vandy's defense and running. Vandy will win 21-8.
