Tim Corbin Biography

Vanderbilt University baseball head coach Tim Corbin is considered one of the best minds in college baseball. Unlike many of his colleagues, who began their careers shuttering between schools as low level assistants, Corbin experienced remarkable continuity: he worked as an assistant coach at Clemson University for nine years and the head coach Presbyterian College for six before taking over as head coach of the Commodores in 2003.

When Corbin took over in 2003, Vanderbilt was (as it remains in other sports) the doormat of the SEC and a perennial loser at the national level. However, Corbin began to turn the program around almost immediately through a combination of exceptional recruiting and talented coaching. In his first year, Corbin turned in a 27-28 season, which, though mediocre, was a noticeable improvement over Vanderbilt’s recent performance. He then followed this up with an exceptional 45-19 season and a visit to the NCAA Super Regional. In the six years since, Corbin has built the program into one of the nation’s powerhouses as the Commodores have attended the NCAA tournament every year except 2005, won the SEC with a 54-13 record in 2007, and reached the Super Regional in 2010.

On top of his success at Vanderbilt, Corbin also won fans as the coach of the USA National Team in 2006. He led the team to a 28-2 record and a Gold Medal at the World Championships. Moreover, his ability to coach top recruits-including future major league stars David Price and Pedro Alvarez-has led to numerous other coaching offers from the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Auburn, LSU, and the University of Oregon. However, Corbin remains loyal to Vanderbilt and the future of the program looks very bright.
