Kevin O'Sullivan Biography

University of Florida baseball coach Kevin O’Sullivan was born on December 27th, 1968 in Goshen, NY. He played catcher at Jupiter High School in Florida and, following that, earned a degree in Sports Medicine from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree in exercise science and wellness from Florida Atlantic University.

After earning his master’s degree and spending some time outside of baseball, O’Sullivan accepted an assistant coaching position at Clemson University in 1999. He remained there until 2007 and was an integral part of some of Clemson’s best seasons. Perhaps his greatest achievement was that, in less than ten years of coaching, he had an unprecedented twenty nine pitchers selected in the MLB draft. As a result of this success, he was hired by the University of Florida in 2007 to replace Pat McMahon and revive the struggling Gators program.

Three years into O’Sullivan’s tenure, it is clear that he is the rising star of SEC baseball. Though his first season in Tallahassee was mediocre, the Gators did show progress late in the season and made it to the NCAA Regional. The team followed this up with an impressive 42-22 finish in 2008-9 and reached the NCAA Super Regional; a performance that helped O’Sullivan rope in the #1 ranked recruiting class nationally for the upcoming 2009-10 season. This group of super-talented recruits played an integral role in Florida’s exceptional 47-17 record last season and their run to the College World Series. Though the Gators lost the championship, their future, and O’Sullivan’s, appear to be extremely bright.
