Dave Van Horn Biography


Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Dave Van Horn was born on September 17th, 1960 in Fullerton, CA. After starring in high school, Dave Van Horn was a versatile infielder for McLennan Community College from 1980-81 and Arkansas in 1982. He then played in the Atlanta Braves organization from 1982-1984 before being released and taking a job as a graduate assistant at his alma mater. Van Horn then spent three years as an assistant at Arkansas before earning his first job as a head coach at Texarkana Community College.

Dave Van Horn has spent twenty one seasons coaching college baseball and is one of the most experienced and successful coaches in the sport. Beginning at Texarkana (1988-93), and continuing through Central Missouri State (1994), Louisiana State (1995-97), and Nebraska (1998-2002), Van Horn constructed one of the most impressive resumes in baseball. He earned the ABCA Central Region and NCAA Division II coach of the year awards in 1994, the Southland coach of the year award in 1995 and 1997, the ABCA Midwest Region coach of the year award in 2000 and 2001, and the Big 12 and NCAA coach of the year awards in 2001 while compiling an impressive 585-242 record. He also reached the College World Series in both 2000 and 2001 and this success led to the Razorbacks’ decision to hire him as their head coach in 2002.

In his eight years at Arkansas, Van Horn has compiled a 276-158 (.636) record. He has enjoyed a large degree of success; reaching the College World Series in 2004 and 2009 and becoming a regular NCAA tournament participant. Looking forward, Van Horn’s program remains one of the strongest in the SEC and seems assured of a stable immediate future.
