2010-2011 Tennessee Volunteers Swimming and Diving Preview

The Tennessee Volunteers come in at number 4 in the ranking of the SEC, but thatdoes not mean that they cannot compete for the SEC Championship and the National Championship. In fact, the Lady Vols have finished in the top 15 of the NCAA Championship in the past 5 seasons, clearly showing that they are a force to be reckoned with in the SEC.

The men's squad returns nearly all of its key athletes, with only two seniors not returning to the team from last season. They return eight All-Americans, and look to be in prime position to snatch an SEC Championship from the likes of Florida and Auburn. Brad Craig and Michael Wright are the unquestioned leaders of the Volunteers heading into this season, and they will both look to build on their already impressive individual accomplishments.

The women's team has shown that it is one of the top swimming and diving programs in the nation and that it has not intention of slowing down its rate of growth. Matt Kredich is already viewed as the greatest women's swimming and diving coach to ever coach for Tennessee, and he is closing in on his first championship season. After all, it is only a matter of time for a program that has been in the mix for as long as the Lady Vols have been.

The men and women's teams are looking to make a move on the big three in the swimming world of the SEC- Auburn, Florida, and Georgia. They should be able to place themselves firmly into the conversation about the national championship, and their consistency should not be questioned at this point. Now, they just have to take that next step and pull the upset in the championship meets.
