2010-2011 LSU Tigers Swimming and Diving Preview

The LSU Tigers come into this season looking to improve upon their performances last season, when both the men and women finished 7th in the SEC Championship. Both squads are impressive in their own rights, and they have the experience to put together a good run through this season.

The LSU men's team returns three All-Americans and 24 letterwinners from last year's squad, presenting them with a depth and experience that the Tigers have not had the liberty of experiencing in years. Seniors Hannes Heyl, James Myers, and Clint Hallum are all returning All-Americans that are capable of carrying the Tigers through many of their meets, but they will need other experienced swimmers to step up if they are going to make a serious run at the SEC title this season.

The women's squad is in about the same boat as the men. They only lose three athletes from last season, and they return all four of their All-Americans as well as 16 of the letterwinners from last season. This has been heralded as the deepest and most experienced class the Lady Tigers have had in years. They are led by Jane Trepp, whose individual accolades are some of the best in the country. If she can have a few of her teammates step up, then the Lady Tigers can have a very successful season.

If the LSU Tigers can come together and produce like they are capable of, then the top of the SEC should be on notice. The experience just oozes out of this program, and this is the closest that LSU will come to unseating the top teams in the SEC. I just do not think they have the talent to accomplish this feat. They should, however, put together a successful season and they will have successful individuals in this program.
