2010-2011 Kentucky Wildcats Swimming and Diving Preview

The Kentucky Wildcats are looking to put together a very successful year this season. Last season, the men finished 16th in the NCAA Championships. This was strong performance that should give them reason to reach for even higher goals. The women finished 34th in their NCAA Championship, and will be looking to their more experienced athletes to provide a spark for the squad.

The men's team is led by returning All-American Tyler Reed. He looks to lead his team into another successful season, one in which the Wildcats will contend for the SEC title after coming in 6th last year. They will need some heavy contributions from younger athletes, however, if they wish to compete with the likes of Auburn and Florida, as the depth seems to be too great for the Wildcats to overcome.

The women's team has also been competitive in recent years, and that 8th place finish last season in the SEC should not be held against them when one factors in just how overly talented the SEC really is. Kayla Sergesketter looks to be the leader for the Lady Wildcats this season, as she brings her All-American speed to the relay teams and already holds a relay record in the UK.

Kentucky will have its work cut out if it is to get into the top of the SEC this season. The men will face stiff competition from the likes of Auburn and Georgia, while the women will be facing down defending champs Florida and Tennessee for the crown. They should have a great season, but I do not see them taking any championships from the reigning powers this season.
