Georgia Bulldogs Swimming and Diving

Georgia Bulldogs Swimming and Diving probably slides into the #3 spot in the SEC behind Auburn and Florida.

Georgia's Women's swimming and diving team finished 5th at the 2007 NCAA Championship. They are currently ranked 5th nationally. The Bulldog Male swimmers are ranked 8th nationally.
The Georgia Bulldogs swimming and diving teams opened the 2008-07 season at home, meeting University of North Carolina. The head coach, Jack Bauerle, expressed excitement about the meet and was eager to see the teams finally compete after extensive off-season prep.

The Lady Bulldogs had many new and promising faces this season, which made everyone all the more eager to see them in action. They were not disappointed, as both the men’s and the women’s teams have done well on their first meets, winning a conclusive victory over the Tar Heels. The men scored 167-133 and the women had an even more conclusive upper hand with 171-121. The new additions to the women’s team performed great as well, winning five events for the Bulldogs.

The next meet for the Bulldogs swimming and diving women’s team was in Arkansas for a tri-meet event against University of Arkansas and North Texas. There was a lot of pressure on the team, since it could be a milestone for the coach, Jack Bauerle, who after the North Carolina victory had 399 career victories.

Coach Bauerle was modest, when talking to the press, and complemented the Bulldogs on all the hard work they have done, stating that those victories were a result of hard work and dedication on their part.

The meet was by no means a disappointment, as he once again led the Lady Bulldogs to victory, finishing with the scores of 168-127 against the Lady Razorbacks. The team then added the 401st victory to the coach’s record against North Texas, scoring an awesome 212-82. Coach Bauerle was well pleased with the performance of the team as he achieved his milestone.

Following their dual victory, both men’s and women’s teams headed to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a meet with LSU Tigers. Despite the recent victories, Coach Bauerle anticipated tough competition from LSU and commended the rival team and their coach. The Georgia Bulldogs swimming and diving teams did not disappoint, however, and brought two more victories for University of Georgia for this season. The men’s team finished with 138-99 score, while the women’s team had another great meet with a score of 132-106.

Resuming the friendly rivalry with the Florida Gators, the Bulldogs met them at home for a dual meet that had everyone excited. The meet also coincided with a football game between Bulldogs and Gators, so school spirit was high on both sides. The Georgia Bulldog swimming and diving women’s team, ranked No. 5, took yet another victory against No. 6 Gators, scoring 148-95 and ending up with 5-0 overall and 3-0 in Southeastern Conference.

The men did not do as well, losing to the higher-ranked Gators with a score of 132-111, slipping to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the SEC. Coach Bauerle once again commended the women’s team on great work, but also expressed pride in the men’s team despite the loss.
