Ole Miss Rebels Track and Field

The Ole Miss Rebels track and field teams had a disappointing finish at the 2007 Southeastern Conference Championships this past season with the women’s team finishing 12th and the men’s team not obtaining a ranking at all.

Two players for the Ole Miss Rebels track and field men’s team, Gabriel Ngwiri, who was injured for most of the season and while he decided to compete in the Southeastern Conference race was unable to finish, and Ty Gillespie, who was disqualified, kept the Ole Miss Rebel track and field men’s team from earning a score in the competition since only three of the five runners were able to finish the race.

However, as an individual Ngwiri came in 50th with a 25:49.72 time. Also able to place during the event was Ole Miss Rebel track and field freshman Jephtah Kenei who was second on the team and had an overall rank of 73 with his 26:27.07 time and Chad Berry, a sophomore, took 93 with the finishing time of 27:41.14.

On the Ole Miss Rebels track and field women’s side of the competition senior Samantha Mazer was a top finisher with her time of 23:18.65 which earned her a place at 65 in the competition as well as Julie Little, a Ole Miss Rebel track and field freshmen, who placed 75th in the Southeastern Championship and second on the team with her time of 24:03.31.

With a 90th position placing, Ole Miss Rebel track and field sophomore Anna Adams earned a time of 24:57.67 and Allison Kneip, who is a freshman, had a time of 25:06.24 which placed her 92nd in the ranks. Lastly, junior Ole Miss Rebels track and field member Lindsay Doucett finished 5th on the team and placed 97th overall in the Conference with her time of 25:52.53, only two places above fellow junior Kirby Patterson with her time of 27:08.96.

While the Southeastern Conference was a let down as a whole for the Ole Miss Rebel track and field men and women’s team, the athletes still have high hopes for the NCAA Regional competition and the rest of the season. One off Championship doesn’t set the stage for the rest of their placing and head coach, Joe Walker, is positive the team can still turn things around.

Though the Ole Miss Rebels track and field team suffered another great loss with the shooting and death of track star Rodney Lockhart, the rest of the team members are determined to go on and win in their teammate’s honor.

Rodney Lockhart’s death was tragic and caused a great deal of sadness for the Ole Miss Rebel track and field team, coaches, fans and other college attendees. It was an unexpected turn of events in the Ole Miss Rebel track and field team life and won’t be something that is easily forgotten. While the event has caused some problems within the Ole Miss Rebel track and field team performance, everyone is entitled their time to grieve.

Here is the collection of the finest Ole Miss Rebels Merchandise and Apparel.
