Week Six SEC Softball Power Rankings

Weekly thoughts from left field…

Well, it looks like two teams are beginning to separate themselves from the SEC pack this season. The #1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide and #2 ranked Florida Gators have both jumped out to early leads in each division of the SEC that they participate in. Florida owns a two and a half game lead in the SEC East while Alabama owns a one and a half game lead in the SEC West division.

Alabama looks clearly the stringer team in their division, by far, as they have already swept their two game series over the second place Auburn Tigers last week. Miss. State swept three games at home against Arkansas and are keeping themselves in the mix for and SEC Tournament invitation, which goes to the top 8 SEC finishers.

Florida still must face second place and #4 ranked Georgia this weekend in a huge series for the SEC East. The #11 ranked Tennessee Lady Vols and #23 ranked Kentucky Wildcats will still pose challenges to the Gators and Bulldogs later in the season also. The Lady Vols welcome the #1 ranked Tide to town for a very important two game doubleheader this week.

The Lady Vols can’t afford any more slip ups after dropping their opening series against Kentucky. The LSU Tigers finally broke the seven game losing streak they were mired in with two victories over Kentucky to take that series, but still find themselves well back in the SEC West standings and needing some more solid play and victories to catch back up.

Alabama swept the #4 ranked Georgia Bulldogs three games last weekend and put a big dent into the Bulldogs SEC title hopes. The Bulldogs will need some help now to over take the Tide for the SEC Title, but we are still very early in the SEC race and there is a ton of softball still left to play.

Also we have to congratulate South Carolina Gamecocks, who are in the midst of a five game losing streak, but have already tripled last season’s SEC wins total..… Here are your week 6 Power Rankings….

#1 Alabama (29-1) Tide swept 3 games vs. Georgia and are back on top.

#2 Florida (30-1) The Gators are breathing right down the Tide’s neck.

#3 Georgia (23-4) Bulldogs looking to regroup after 3 losses to Tide.

#9 South Carolina (16-12) USC is mired in a five game losing streak.

#10 Ole Miss (10-21) Ole Miss still seeking that first SEC victory.
