2008 Alabama Crimson Tide Volleyball

If you are looking for information about this year's team, go to current Alabama Crimson Tide Volleyball.

Alabama Volleyball has been on the upswing over the past decade. The improvement was reflected in their 2007 record as Bama finished last season with 15-15 record, including going 12-8 in the SEC. In 2008, the Crimson Tide will be shooting for it's third straight trip to the NCAA Volleyball tournament. Last year the Tide lost to Clemson in the first round of the NCAA V-ball tournament.

Alabama returns three starters including Amy Pauly. Pauly holds the Tide's single season digs record. Pauly is joined by Lindsey Buteyn and Brooks Webster, respectively the Tide's top returners in blocks and kills.

Alabama's head V-ball head coach, Judy Green says that the team is probably the biggest team, physically she's had, which could make them one of the better blocking teams in the Southeastern Conference. Alabama's 2008 team has two seniors, three juniors, four sophomores and five freshmen. So, it is a young team. In fact, Prep Volleyball.com named Alabama's recruiting class the 27th best in the country. But, the losses of the great threesome of Crystal Hudson, Bridget Fuentez and Brigitte Slack will be tough to replace immediately.

Alabama Crimson Tide volleyball has been successful over the years. The Lady Tide Volleyball team appeared in the AIAW National Championship Tournament three times in the 70's and had a truly standout season in 2005.

The rest of this page was written in 2007: In 2005, the The Lady Tide was made it to the NCAA tournament semifinals, which was the furthest the school has ever gone, but was defeated by Florida in a heartbreaking match.

Although they have a strong record in SEC Tournaments, the Alabama ladies have never been able to walk away with the SEC Volleyball Championship Title.

In 2006, Alabama Volleyball had a decent 17-13 record. Twelve of the seventeen wins were in the SEC and Bama finished second in the SEC West. The Lady Tide got an NCAA Tournament bid again, but, this time, lost to Stephen F. Austin 2-3 in the first round.

With five returning starters and a second consecutive appearance at the NCAA tournament, the UA ladies volleyball team is looks to be in tip-top shape for the upcoming 2007 season.

All-American Crystal Hudson, who was ranked twenty-first in the nation for her hitting percentage, will return to the team to play her final season with the Tide. Megan Hudson, who was a member of the 2006 SEC Community Service Team and is the current president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee for Alabama, will also return for her senior year as middle blocker.

With their large number of returning talent and positive momentum, the Alabama Crimson Tide Volleyball certainly should have another winning season in 2007.

In fact, we think they will win the SEC West; get an NCAA Tournament bid; and win at least one game in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. We think they will end the season nationally ranked as one of the top 25 college volleyball teams in America.
