Looking for our current Mississippi State Bulldogs Track and Field page? Check out 2010-2011 Mississippi State Bulldogs Track and Field.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs men's track and field team failed to show any remarkable performance during the 2008 season. It finished the year without any SEC ranking.

Senior Jamil Hubbard of the Mississippi State team ran 45.24 seconds to win the men's 400-meter dash finals at the 2008 Southeastern Conference Track and Field Championships. At 2008 NCAA championships MSU men's 4x400-meter relay team ran 3 minutes, 5.60 seconds to finish 11th in the semifinals and senior Golden Coachman ran 1:48.58 to finish 12th in the men's 800-meter run semifinals. The head coach of the team is Al Schmidt.

Last Season's Discussion:

The Mississippi State Bulldogs track and field team had a lot of developments this past year (2007) including the addition to two new members to the coaching staff. One of the additions includes Bryan Fetzer and April Thomas as assistant coaches.

Though both hires are still pending the approval of the Board of Trustees. Fetzer is a national recruiter who worked for the University of California. During his time there the athletes broke 11 school records, and the women's squad earned their highest NCAA finish with 8th place scoring at the indoor and 15th at the outdoor.

In addition Fetzer has coached 16 national individual champions and 83 All-American athletes. The Mississippi State Bulldogs track and field head coach, Al Schmidt is excited about the addition of Fetzer.

2009 Mississippi State Bulldogs Women's Track and Field

Mississippi State Bulldogs women's Track and Field team passed a bad season in 2008.It finished the season without SEC ranking. The only noteworthy athlete of the team is junior Marrissa Harris, who scored 5,600 points to win the heptathlon at the 2008 Southeastern Conference Track and Field Championships. Under the head coach of the team is Al Schmidt, Mississippi State Bulldogs women's Track and Field team looks not promising for the next season.

Last Season's Discussion:

April Thomas also joins the Mississippi State Bulldogs track and field after working at Knoxville Catholic High School coaching girls' and boys' shot put and discus. Having been a track athlete herself at the University of Tennessee, new Mississippi State Bulldog track and field assistant coach Thomas finished as runner-up in the 2006 Southeastern Conference Indoor Championship at shot put and has three other top-five Southeastern Conference placements.

Thomas ranks 5th in the Tennessee University's all-time outdoor athletes and helped the university win a Southeastern Conference Championship in 2005. To top off her impressive record, Thomas was apart of the University of Tennessee team which won the 2005 NCAA Mideast Regional, the first team victory at the event.

Another new addition to the Mississippi State Bulldogs track and field team is Martin Lee, a new multi-event athlete which has signed with the team. Lee was awarded the Mississippi's Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Being a 2007 high school graduate, reaching such recognition in such a short period of time definitely provoked excitement from MSU track and field head coach Steve Dudley. Lee's past awards also include three state titles at the 2007 Mississippi High School Activity Association's State Meet in the 110m hurdles, triple jump and discus events.

Finally the Mississippi State Bulldogs track and field track star Golden Coachman has really been standing out amongst college athletes. In the 2007 AT&T USA Track and Field Championship Goldman placed 7th in the 800m run with a 1:47.18 time.

Coachmen also was awarded an All-American with his fourth place win at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor National Championships and broke the school record for the 800m twice in the USA Track and Field Championships. The first time the Mississippi State Bulldog track and field record was broken was with a time of 1:47.40 at the 2007 Southeastern Conference Championships and the second record breaking time was 1:46.79. Before Coachman the record was held by Kraig Cesar back in the 1988 season.

Finally, Mississippi State Bulldogs track and field woman athlete, Tiffany McWilliams, had the third-best overall time, 4:09.93, in the 1500m run at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
