2009 Kentucky Wildcats Track and Field

The 2008 was an outstanding season for the Kentucky Wildcats men's track and field team. The UK men's team got the fourth place at the 2008 SEC championships with 27 points.


But the team enjoyed its best season at 2008 NCAA championships. It finished 9th at 2008 NCAA with 25 points, which is the best team finish in NCAA Outdoor Championship history. At 2008 NCAA the men's 4x400m relay team got the third-place finish. Junior Rashaud Scott, as the second Wildcat man to win an NCAA Outdoor field event, also won the NCAA title in the men's shot put.Under the leadership of the head coach Don Weber,who enters his 20th year with the team, the Kentucky Wildcats men's track and field team looks strong for the next season.

The new 2007 Kentucky Wildcats track and field team roster includes four members of the 2007 USA Today All-USA Track and Field Team, 15 members who were state champions and five transfers students as announced by head coach Don Weber.

The men's Kentucky Wildcats track and field team is led by Brendan Ames, Colin Boevers, Grant Lindsey, and Derrick Locke.


Ames, who hails from Cheyenne, Wyoming, holds the current title for best in the world for the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.15. Boevers, who is a new member of the Kentucky Wildcat track and field team comes from Salt Lake City, Utah and has earned himself a name for being the fourth in the nation on the field in the area of shot put and 8th for discus.

Lindsey, also a recruit for the Kentucky Wildcat track and field team, comes from Mansfield, Texas and is ranked second in the nation in high jump. The rookie of the team, Locke, comes from Hugo, Oklahoma and has top-ranked long jump performance for the entire county.



Jazmyn Shorter, originally from Lakewood, Florida, is the nation's fourth-ranked graduating senior in the Kentucky Wildcats track and field women's team recruiting class. Shorter is the 2007 Florida 3A state high school champion in the 400-meter dash and holds the 3rd performance in the country, for high school, with a time of 53.73.

The Kentucky Wildcats track and field team has a strong roster this year with it's mix of champion-caliber accredited athletes. The team includes 2007 Tennessee state champion Danielle Sampley, from Maryville, Tennessee, who competes in the 100m hurdles and pentathlon. In addition, Sampley was a silver medalist for the 2007 AAU Junior Olympics in the 100m hurdles. The Kentucky Wildcat track and field women's team also includes Atlanta, Georgia native Biance Tyson with a 2007 Georgia state champion title in the 100m and 200m.

Jenny Svoboda is a 2007 Nebraska state championship thrower from Howells, Nebraska and Ashley Newby, from Maplewood, New Jersey, holds the second-ranked indoor performance for the pentathlon, as well as was named the National Scholastic Pentathlon Champion for 2007.

Another stellar athlete for the Kentucky Wildcat track and field women's team is Victoria Dunlap, who is apart of two sport teams for the University of Kentucky, who claimed the 2007 USA Junior Olympic heptathlon title this past year and also is a two-time US Youth National Champion.


The Kentucky Wildcats track and field team will include transfers such as Chase Madison, from Newton, Iowa, and Rashaud Scott, from Mesa, Arizona, and Jenna and Jessica Ortman, both from Williamsville, New York and Emilee Strot from Gesham, Oregon.


Madison was a 2006 NCAA Division I All-American in discus when he attended the Iowa State University and Scott was a five-time NJCAA All-American in discus, shot put and weight throw while at Mesa Community College. Jenna and Jessica are both middle distance/cross country runners who came to the Kentucky Wildcat track and field women's team from the University of Albany. Finally, Strot is a specialist in the field with throwing discus, shot put and javelin.
