Florida Gators vs. Penn State Nittany Lions

Florida has discovered what life without Tim Tebow is like, and quite frankly, they don’t like it. The Gators struggled to a 7-5 record and could never get on track with Tebow’s replacements. John Brantley didn’t work in the Florida system. His struggles threw a crimp in Florida’s plan to maintain their winning ways.

Penn State’s season was nearly as disappointing. They also finished 7-5, no doubt causing frustration for legendary coach Joe Paterno. Paterno prepares his team as well as any coach, so game-planning for Florida’s strong defense shouldn’t be a huge problem. Translating that to success on the field could be more difficult.

Plus, with this being Urban Meyer's last game, look for a Gator win.

Prediction: Florida over Penn State

Outback Bowl: Florida vs. Penn State
by: Jerry

Many people thought that Florida did not deserve to get a bid into this game, but that did not stop the Outback Bowl from inviting them anyway. Florida had a tough time getting their offense together this season, and they only really had one great offensive game against Georgia. Add to this the fact that Urban Meyer is leaving for good after the bowl game, and it would be easy to see the Gators just laying down and letting Penn State walk all over them. Florida’s pride is the biggest question about the team.

Penn State built up a nice bit of momentum at the end of the season, and Joe Paterno has claimed that he will be back to coach next season. If the Nittany Lions can get some reliable quarterback play, then they could run a downtrodden Florida team off the field if Florida can not decide that it wants to play for its pride.

There are many things about December that I dread every year. There is the first time I have to haul my carcass out of bed early to get the snow off my driveway and sidewalk. There is the possibility that the present with my name on it is a Chia Pet.

And there are the stories about a coach who is leaving dear old State U for whatever reason, and how his team is expected to turn into the 1972 Dolphins when they learn their coach is leaving. I watched several Florida Gators games this season. I knew that Urban Meyer was standing there in that headset. I knew I could read the word "Gators" on the helmet. Other than that, I couldn't recognize this team.

Despite having their pick of recruits from what may be the best football state in the country, this team couldn't find the end zone without a park ranger. And John Brantley isn't even Rex Grossman, much less Tim Tebow. They're taking on a Penn State team whose coaches have literally seen it all.

Urban Meyer's stepping down won't turn his team into world beaters. They'll send him off with a thud.

I like Penn State to win big.
