2009 Auburn Tigers Golf Preview

Looking for our current Auburn Tigers Golf page? Check out 2010-2011 Auburn Tigers Golf.

Auburn Tigers golf ended the 2007 with the men's team ranked 29th; the women's team ranked 7th in the nation. So, they are not one of the top SEC golf teams.

The Auburn Tigers golf -- men's team is lead by head coach Mike Griffin. Coach Griffin is excited about the 2008 season. With three freshmen, two sophomores, three juniors, and six seniors the Tiger golfers look to be strong this year.

Jay Moseley is noted for his team spirit. A senior, originally from Bainbridge, Georgia, the game of golf has always been his life.

The Auburn Tigers golf -- women's team is clearly the stronger of the two Auburn golf teams. In fact, they were ranked 5th nationally in a 2008 NCAA Women's Golf poll.

Lady Tigers golf team member Cydney Clanton tied for first at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship. Although she is from North Carolina she chose to go to Auburn University because of its outstanding golf camps. She obviously also liked, Kim Evans, the head coach of Auburn's women's golf team.

Among those on the women's golf roster this year are, Betsy Boyd, Nicole Hage, Lauren Hawkins, Jessica Lovell, Mariana Macias, Marisa Milligan, Abigale Schepperle, Candace Schepperle, Margaret Shirley and of course Cydney Clanton.

Ranked ninth they are moving on up in the golf scene. A lot of people don't watch golf (as much as football anyway) but when the coaches were asked about this, both the men and women's team coaches responded that their teams don't need a fan club, and they know that their Auburn Tiger classmates and peers are cheering them on.

Auburn's men's and women's teams both feel their biggest rivalry is, of course, the Alabama Crimson Tide. Interstate rivals for a long time the golf teams actually mark the calendars when they know the time is near for the big rivalry match.

Auburn Tigers Golf has come a long way in the last decade. It has better programs and practice facilities.

The Tigers' women's golf team hosts a camp that provides housing and, of course, training. It is held at the Auburn University Club and Grand National. The camp trainers include Auburn head coach Kim Evans and Assistant Coach Courtney Trimble.

The Auburn Tigers Golf -- men's team also has a golf camp. It is held at the Grand National Complex as well.
