New Tennessee Assistant Football Coaches Stan Drayton and Dave Clawson -- Getting the Job Done!

by Cincy Vol
(Roanoke, Va)

It was just a few months back that we were welcoming this new staff. First Stan Drayton, a running back's coach from rival Florida. Next, Dave Clawson was added as the new offensive coordinator; he came to Knoxville from his head coaching position at Richmond.

Clawson brought his fellow coach Latrell Scott with him in order to round out the new staff. The fans were unfamiliar with these guys. I mean sure the occasional fan had heard of Stan Drayton, but I’d be lying if I said I knew anything about the guy.

But, here we stand in early July, watching these guys tear it up on the recruiting front.
For example, Drayton who pulled in all purpose four-star running back Jarvis Giles, or Latrell Scott getting three-star running back Toney Williams. Clawson has pulled in two quarterbacks: three-star Bryce Petty and four-star Josh Nunes.

Not to mention that they have helped in recruiting of the other six offensive players that have committed to the Vols. They’re out to a start that includes four four-star recruits and five three-star ones.

I have to say I was a bit skeptical to see us bring in these coaches from Richmond, but I have been very impressed with everything they’ve done to date. They’ve been able to keep an entire offensive scheme in the shadows, keeping fans guessing all this time.

Rounding out this thing, I’ll leave you with saying that these guys seem to be the real deal. I sure hope they can coach as well as they recruit. I'm a fan of them already.
