Frank Haith Biography

Frank Haith comes into this season to replace the leaving Mike Anderson. Missouri Basketball has seen a lot of changes over the past few years. A retirement, then the firing of Quinn Snyder, followed by the recovery of the program when Mike Anderson came in and instituted his run and gun style of play and now we will see what Frank Haith can do here with Missouri in the SEC. The SEC is not at the top in basketball as it once was, so he may be able to get by for a while building and scratching by, but each team seems to be getting better coaches, and with the coach he is replacing being down the road at Arkansas there will be some battles soon. Haith will have his hands full, but this is going to be a great job if he can handle it. The team left to him is good and he has good support.

He has plenty of good assistant coaching experience. He is a 25 year coaching veteran. He comes from Burlington North Carolina. He coached at the University of Miami and had to try to get something started there as there was absolutely no basketball background at that school and there simply is just not an interest at the college level. This of course makes it hard to recruit as much as hard to get people in the seats. Coaches like Rick Barnes and Mike Kryzewski have nothing but positive things to say about him. They love his honesty, integrity, the way he treats his players, and work ethic. He is a great family man and we all know that if you go into a home to recruit a young man and his mother and father sit down, it's much easier to get to know them if you can chat about your own family as well and strike up a conversation that way.

He is a great recruiter and everything about him says class. We will have to see if his on the court coaching is as good as his recruiting and organizational skills. He seems to have a lot of people's support. Most coaches speak very highly of him. I didn't see it in Miami. I just think the proof should be in the pudding and if you can't make it work at all in one place, tough to recruit or not, then there's something going on with the way you're having your players play. I think you can make players better. He obviously didn't do that. He should have gone after the type of athletes he needed to fit a system. I don't think he did that, and if that's the case then you're doomed. You either do that, or you get the athletes that can win before your contract is up so you don't have to leave and you honor that deal and you make sure that the team gets to the point that it should have. That's my opinion, but I just coach AAU ball.
