Darrin Horn Biography

Darrin Horn was hired in April of 2008 to take over the reigns of the University of South Carolina men's basketball program from the departing head coach Dave Odom. With the hiring of Horn, a new era of basketball is being ushered into the University of South Carolina, and there is much hope that this new era can bring a level of consistent success that has been long absent from the Gamecocks' on the court. Horn is known for a fast paced style of play and an up tempo offense, and it is hoped that this style of play will infuse the South Carolina program with a much needed jolt in the right direction.

Prior to his hiring as the head coach at the University of South Carolina, Horn served as the head coach of his alma mater, the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers, where he served as he head coach for 5 full seasons. While at Western Kentucky, Horn led his alma mater to a very high level of success that included 5 consecutive winning seasons, four twenty win seasons, three postseason tournament berths, two 1st place finishes in the eastern division of the Sun Belt Conference, two postseason National Invitational Tournament berths, and, most recently in 2007-2008, an NCAA Tournament berth. That tournament berth led to a highly successful NCAA Sweet 16 run, and concluded a highly successful 29-7 season. Overall, over the course of his 5 seasons at Western Kentucky, Horn compiled an impressive coaching record of 111-48 (which resulted in a winning percentage of just under 70% (.698 to be exact).

Horn also served for a number of years as an assistant head coach at a number of fine basketball institutions prior to being hired as the head coach at Western Kentucky.

Immediately preceding his hiring at WKU, Horn served as an assistant coach at Marquette University under head coach Tom Crean for 4 seasons. Prior to his stint at Marquette, Horn served as an assistant head coach at Morehead State for 2 seasons. And previously, he served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Western Kentucky.

Horn played for the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers from 1991 through 1995 where he played the position of guard. While at Western Kentucky University, Horn was a four year letterman, and a four year academic All-American.

Horn has also been an active participant in humanitarian causes that revolve around basketball and international contact. Most recently, Horn participated in the USO's program entitled "Operation Hardcourt" in the summer of 2006. During that trip, he participated in an eight day tour of Japan, during which he served as the coach to a team made up of military players who were participating in a tournament in the region.
