Florida: Try a Non-Conference Road Game

by E. Shep

The Florida Gators have only played 8 non-conference road games over the past 11 years. (7 of which were against FSU and 1 against Miami).

In fact, they have never played a non-conference game outside of the state of Florida. (excluding bowl games which are held in non-host sites)

Most of the other SEC schools have similar records of never playing road non-conference games outside of their state. (TU being an exception).

It nice to claim that the SEC is so good against non-conference teams. But until Florida goes to BYU, UCLA, or Kansas on the road... they ought not think of themselves so highly....

Big Deal
by: Jeff

In those games, Florida has played 4 teams that finished ranked in the top 5. Here's a complete list of BCS teams that have played 4 non-conference games on the road against 4 or more top 5 teams over that period:

Florida
Florida State
Miami

If Florida crossed the state line and played at Troy, they'd be in another state but not playing as tough a game. Quit pretending that an imaginary line makes the game all that much tougher.

Why do you care?

Why do you care?

Afterall, Florida has not had an SOS out of the TOP 5 in 3 years.

Besides, it's only the fans from teams with weak conference opponents that are complaining.

Having to travel more than 400 miles to play a game is part of the equation. The SEC as a rule, with a few exceptions, rarely travels cross country for a non-conference game. Until then, the high rankings those teams get are not warranted.

Huh?
by: BAMF1960

No where in the NCAA rule book or BCS rankings does it have notations that a team must play a road games beyond 400 miles from their home field.

You must be a fan of team that doesn't measure up.

Are You SEC Fans Kidding Me?
by: Anonymous

Stop already! If you're conference is the best then please go out there and play the best. This is what I hear from all SEC fans: "we play in the best conference so we don't have to play outside of it." Or some variation. Florida deserves half the credit they get. Their schedule is ALWAYS the same. Two cupcakes to begin the season...Tennessee next...Georgia in Jacksonville (wth a bye the week before)...and another cupcake before FSU. C'mon! And, then we're all supposed to be impressed because they get placed in a Championship game and have 6 weeks to prepare?

Tennessee, say whatever you want about them...they schedule and take their lumps from outside the Southeast. Notre Dame, UCLA. 0-4 vs. those two teams in recent years. Congrats to Georgia for finally getting out of the Southeast. Arizona St. last year and Oklahoma St. this year. 1-1 as results.

To the SEC fan: You can't just call yourselves the best conference without actually having to prove. Particularly Florida. Who by the way, has been beaten by every Big Ten school they've played in Bowl games not named Ohio State in the last 15 years.

Coming from an NFL fan, Florida is the epitomy of what's wrong with College Football. Schools make their own schedules and tailor them to fit their ultimate goal in a ridiculous BCS system. I'm picking on Florida because they're supposedly the "best" team in the conference, and the nation. But, when someone mentions only USC in the Pac-10...like clockwork...and SEC fan fires back with "well they play in a joke conference." Or some variation. Meanwhile, since Pete Carroll has been there, the Trojans are 8-0 vs. the SEC and 32-7 vs. the AP Top 25. That's an .820 winning percentage. Unheard of!

The thing is, I'm not even necessarily saying that the SEC isn't the best conference (definitely not this season), but it's certainly not the best conference based on "on-field performance." Oh and by the way SEC fans, because one team in your conference wins the so-called championship...doesn't mean your entire conference is good. And, what the hell is with rooting for someone else in your conference to win when your team hasn't made it. That's like being a Green Bay Packers fan and rooting for the Bears to win the Super Bowl. It's just wrong!

Get your minds straight SEC fans. Not the best fans in the world, but definitely "the most irrational fans in the world."
