Bring in Norm Chow

by UT Fan

Very interesting information. Thanks for digging. We all like Fulmer and everything he has done for the university...from his playing days to his years of dedicated coaching.

Has his time passed us or has the SEC just gotten that much better over the past 5 years? Probably a combination. He has not lost the team...they are still fighting. But on the offensive side of the ball, we are aweful...with similar talent as last year.

One option is to keep Fulmer and bring in a different Offensive Coordinator (i.e Norm Chow with UCLA)...it would have to be a big name and possibly a carrot to succeed Fulmer in the next 3-5 years.

Everybody talks about Clausen being a similar hire as Pearl. Oh how wrong. Pearl was recruiting nationally with his U of Wisc team and they were competitive nationally (and one of the up and coming brightest minds in college basketball).....and basketball schemes & style of play can translate much easier from a mid level program to a high level program.

I question how well an offense can translate from mid level to SEC caliber...where defenses are much faster...and much more difficult to find "match up" issues.

I am a UT grad and do not like to jump the gun on coaches and am proud of UT's loyalty toward coaches...however, perhaps it is time to shake it up some.

That was the thought last year with Clausen but just does not appear to be the right hire. I think if the decision was made to replace Fulmer, they would need to make sure they had a coach that could hit it out of the park.

I have also thought just as you have about having Fulmer in a higher level position...Football operations...where he is still involved in recruitment...but I do not think he would go for that.
