Best Basketball Players from the SEC

The SEC was ahead of all conferences. Twelve players were selected in the 2020 NBA Draft, where six were drafted in the first round. In the 2020-21 season, many guys fought for a spot in the 2021 NBA Draft. However, there are those players whose performances separate them from the rest. If you have been following online betting news on basketball, you must have come across these names as they will surely will appear in the NBA, a Thailand fan favorite, in the future. So, who are the best basketball players from the SEC? Read on to find out.

5. John Fulkerson, F, Tennessee

Fulkerson emerged as a star last year. He moved from 3.1 points per game to 13.7. He might not have the athleticism that would astound you, but he is always in the correct position. Moreover, he is an outstanding finisher around the rim as well as in the mid-range game.

He is touted to keep doing what he does best. Moreover, Tennessee is expected to surround him with more talent meaning he will have more opportunities to improve.

4. Trendon Watford, F, LSU

In retrospect, Watford undoubtedly made the right decision to return to school for his sophomore year. He is actively involved on both ends of the court. His performances are also great, averaging 13.7 points and 7.2 rebounds. Moreover, he managed 1.7 assists per game as a freshman.

Depending on how much game time Will Wade offers him, Watford has the potential to end the season as a 15-point, 10-rebound player. Suppose he manages these numbers; he would be among the players considered for the SEC Player of the Year award.

3. BJ Boston, G, Kentucky

Boston is the top-rated freshman in Kentucky’s highest-rated recruiting class. This puts him under pressure to live up to his ranking. Luckily for the Wildcards and John Calipari, Boston has shown potential to be an elite player.

Some of his strong attributes include his shooting ability and ball distribution. He has all it takes to become Kentucky’s best. Moreover, he could also be among the top picks for the 2021 NBA Draft.

2. Keyontae Johnson, F, Florida

Johnson is SEC’s Preseason Player of the Year. Last season he registered 14.0 points and 7.1 rebounds. Besides that, he also managed 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals. He is poised to record even higher numbers in the 2020-21 season.

Johnson is 6-5, meaning he is shorter than most forwards. However, he utilizes his strength to position himself appropriately for rebounds. Moreover, he can put the ball on the floor better than many forwards. This means that closing him out on the perimeter would not be the best idea. If his teammates can improve their performances, then he could have a special year.

1. Yves Pons, G/F, Tennessee

Pons is the current SEC Defensive Player of the Year. He remains the player with the better instincts on the defensive side of the floor. He knows how to position his body and where to be to be more effective in defence.

Last year, he improved his 3-point shooting after knocking down 34.9% of his attempts. He might not have the best form, but he offers more than just defending and dunking. If he keeps improving his shooting, he will undoubtedly be a first-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
