2010 Alabama Softball

Looking for our current Alabama Softball page? Check out 2011 Alabama Crimson Tide Softball.

Alabama softball coach Pat Murphy is ready for the softball season to start. The Crimson Tide softballers have been training and practicing for weeks, and now is finally their time to show what they have accomplished.

And the Tide look strong in 2008, coming off of last year when they finished the season ranked #9 nationally.

The Crimson Tide softball team set a new record last season by selling 1,000 season tickets for a season with an outstanding team. They intend to do even better.

The first year for Bama softball was 1997. Tide softball teams have won three SEC Tournament titles so far, and plan on adding to that number as well.

The three SEC titles were in 1998, 2003, and then again in 2005. Now, in 2007 the RPI has the Alabama listed in the second position but these are simulated ratings.

Since 2000, the Alabama softball team won the second most games. Better than any other college softball team. They had 419 victories. WOW!

Right now, the Tide has a thirteen game winning streak as of now, an undefeated 11-0 record in April. Just in that time they outscored their opponents 113-29.

And, UA softball team just keeps getting better. They have also hit home runs in the last nine of their outings. Not to mention, twenty home runs, but the 48 stolen bases. Britney Rogers leads the team with 38 of the stolen bases.

Earlier, the team was undefeated 17-0 in February. It seems like they have a good team this year. And they are ultimately proving it.

Whether hitting, fielding, or pitching, the University of Alabama softball team works as a team.

Some say a few of the team mates have a motto, one person can not make a team, but one team can be a winner. That's a neat way to look at it.

The Alabama softball team is not going to lose easy this year, and coach Pat Murphy is working the team so that it stays as good as it has been. Of course, hopefully without injuries.

Here are a few historical tid-bits of the team that are impressive.

In 1998-2001 Kelly Kretaschman had 60 home runs. This was an SEC record. Also, in May of 1997, Alabama Crimson Tide softball player, Kierstin Arntsen hit a home run in the bottom of the first inning in an SEC tournament. There were many SEC records that came out of the Crimson Tide softball team, and new records are still being set and made today.

One last thing that future "Bama Ball" players should know. Coach Murphy makes sure that each team player obtains a good academic record. So performance in the classroom matters as much as on the diamond. Roll Tide!
