2012 Texas A&M Aggies Football Preview

Can the Aggies do it again? Sure, they have a great schedule for one thing. We're predicting they finish second in the SEC West again. Here's our 2013 Texas A&M Aggies Football Preview.

2011 SEC Record: (Big 12 Last year) – Overall 7-6

Returning starters: 6 offense, 4 defense, 1 special teams

The Good: Lots to love on the offensive side of the ball as an up tempo offense broke several school records for passing, scoring and total offense in 2011. Up front are three names you will be hearing about on Sunday: Jake Matthews, Patrick Lewis and Luke Joeckel, and they will open the holes for stud RB Christine Michael, who was lost last year with a torn ACL.

The Bad: Defense will be a question mark as only four starters return. The defense gave up some second half leads last year, and that doesn’t help a team’s confidence.

The Ugly: First year in the SEC will not be easy, especially in the division the Aggies will begin in. Depth is a factor, and that is not good news. Give them a few years to recruit SEC caliber talent and they will be able to compete, but 2012 will not be kind to them, especially if injuries begin to mount.

The Schedule: Not too rough early, but a visit from the Gators will get their feet wet. A four game stretch begins at home with LSU and then on the road at Auburn, Starkville, and Tuscaloosa will be rough, and will baptize A&M into what their new world is all about.

What will happen: A&M has tradition and a passion for football that is equal to the best schools in the SEC and that will make them dangerous. They are in the right place, but now is the wrong time since they are not ready to challenge for the top spot in the division. However, give them time and the SEC West will have themselves another beast. Look for at least seven wins and an upset of a team they are not supposed to beat.

Bowl Game: Give me Liberty or give me death. See you in Memphis on New Year’s Eve.

2012 Prediction: 5th in the SEC West.
